sep1 2016Georgetown will offer an admissions edge to descendants of slaves as part of a comprehensive atonement for the university's historical ties to slavery, its president announced Thursday.

Those ties go back nearly two centuries, when the Washington, D.C., school sold 272 slaves and used the proceeds to pay off debt.

Georgetown President John J. DeGioia will offer a public apology Thursday afternoon for the 1838 sale and will also outline what the university plans to do to acknowledge racism in its past.

How are they gonna prove they are slave descendants?? Answer - they don't have to. Anyone who looks non-white will get this special treatment.

Georgetown University will give preference in admissions to the descendants of slaves owned by the Maryland Jesuits as part of its effort to atone for profiting from the sale of enslaved people.

Georgetown will need to identify and reach out to descendants of slaves and recruit them to the university.

Should they then go after
Africans who sold them to help offset the cost, how about black slave owners here in the states. It is ridiculous how much blacks play victim, heck the Irish had it much worse then they did! How about native Americans, My Dad was 1/4 so I am a descendant, do my kids get special treatment.
 
Genealogists going to make money in DC.
It's not that hard if you're n I t going back all that far. I known my ancestors back into the three digit years. And bits n pieces much farther. Helps when there were names everyone has heard of.

The Jesuits want to try to make amends to the descendants of the people their order enslaved, whose identities will be verified.

The tears of rage are misplaced.

Booth was right about one thing - lincoln was a tyrant. L threw 15,000 NORTHERN citizens in jail without charge just for criticising the war. And he he shut down 200 NORTHERN newspapers for doing the same. What would L have done if he'd lived 4 more years. Start a war w canada.???
