General Kelly remarks defending Trump's phone call

White House chief of staff John Kelly, in an extraordinary and at times emotional statement Thursday, said he was "stunned" by what a Democratic congresswoman told reporters after she listened in on President Donald Trump's call to the widow of a fallen soldier.

Kelly said he advised Trump on what to say before he called the families of the four fallen soldiers who died during an ambush in Niger and encouraged Trump to offer similar words that Gen. Joseph Dunford offered to Kelly when his own son was killed in Afghanistan.

"He was doing exactly what he wanted to do when he was killed. He knew what he was getting into by joining that 1%. He knew what the possibilities were because we were at war," Kelly said, channeling Dunford's words to him upon the death of Kelly's son. "And when he died he was surrounded by the best men on this earth, his friends. That's what the President tried to say to the four families the other day."
 
"He knew what he was getting himself into, because he enlisted. There's no reason to enlist. He enlisted. And he was where he wanted to be, exactly where he wanted to be, with exactly the people he wanted to be with when his life was taken."

And when I listened to this woman and what she was saying and what she was doing on TV, the only thing I could do to collect my thoughts was to go and walk among the finest men and women on this earth. And you can always find them, because they're in Arlington National Cemetery.

He loses all creditability when he ignores Rump's part in all of this.

Kelly is nothing more than a Rump apologist... they should replace him with Sarah Sanders, she has the same job.

You'll notice Kelly never actually states outright that Trump didn't say what the Senator claims.

He simply makes excuses for the inarticulate Cheeto.

You don't call someone to console them upon a death of a love one and say "he knew what he was getting into," like going to a wake of a person who just passed from cancer and saying to the survivor "well he knew he had cancer"

And what you are missing is not what the President said, although it was bad, but that he interjected himself into the whole issue, he made it about him, right away he started fabricating attempting to save face and got caught

Dunford said the exact same thing to Kelly, and Kelly took it honorably. Did Trump say this as a precursor?
"He was doing exactly what he wanted to do when he was killed."

The fake cowboy hat woman has a long history of slamming Trump ( even worse then other Dems) -
so I'm sure she would redact that part.

Kelly was in the room for the phone call -i take his word on it, as he lost his son too

Your kidding right? You think someone telling a spouse whose husband has just been killed that "he was doing exactly what he wanted to do when he was killed" is appropriate?

Of course Kelly would find nothing wrong with it, he has spent his whole life in military, but this was a young housewife, grace means knowing what to say to what people, and it is unimaginable to think what mind would thing telling a pregnant wife that "he was doing exactly what he wanted to do when he was killed" consoles her

And attacking the Congresswomen has nothing to do with it, shooting the messenger, it was said and it is in bad taste, compounded by the fact he didn't even mention the soldiers name to his wife

umm, you haven’t heard the whole thing have you? I suggest you go listen. Kelly most definitely said trump said it. He also said when trump asked him what was said to him when his son died and what should he say to the widow He told trump something similar.

Why is the lunatic congresswoman trying to demean the service this Marine gave his life for turning it into a political opportunism by lying about a sitting President? Or a mountain climber gets killed while climbing a mountain....
Or a skydiver's chute doesn't open....
you're not allowed to comment on how a person looses his or her life ?

In reality, at most funerals I've attended, its usually the family that comments on how or why their loved one died....
