Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid just announced that he intends to hold our brave men and women in uniform hostage to Amnesty for millions of illegal aliens.

In a move that some are rightly calling a "sneak attack," Reid plans to offer his so-called DREAM Act - legislation that will grant Amnesty and taxpayer-subsidized college tuition to millions of illegal aliens - as an amendment to the Defense Authorization Bill.

Essentially, Reid is drawing a line in the sand with this "poison-pill" amendment. He's saying: Grant Amnesty to millions of illegal aliens and force law-abiding U.S. taxpayers to pay for their college tuitions or we'll falsely accuse YOU of not funding the troops. And Reid's counting on weak-kneed Republicans to buckle under the pressure.

That's why our elected officials need to hear from you right now. Votes on this "poison-pill" could occur as early as next week. And we must deny Reid the 60 votes he needs to force his politically-motivated Amnesty stunt down the throats of the American people.

(Excerpt).... the DREAM Act, sponsored by Senator Lugar from Indiana and Senator Durbin from Illinois, among others. The basic idea is to allow certain illegal immigrants who were brought here by their parents at a young age and who have been educated in American schools to become permanent residents.

Under the DREAM Act, certain undocumented individuals could become legal residents. The first step in this process is for the individual to enroll in some type of higher education, such as a university, vocational school, or apprenticeship program. Another option is to enroll in the U.S. military. If certain requirements are met, this person may apply for conditional residency in the U.S. Upon receipt of an associates degree or a 2-year equivalent within six years of the initial petition, the conditional status can be changed and the individual can become a legal permanent resident of the United States.

To be eligible for permanent residency under the DREAM Act, the individual must have entered the United States before turning 16 years of age and must have been in the United States for at least five years without interruption. The individual must also demonstrate the ability to speak English.

Conditional residents under the DREAM Act will be eligible for private loans to fund their education, but will not be eligible for Pell grants. Under the DREAM Act, 65,000 students could become conditional residents each year, and eventually become permanent residents and citizens if they comply with current immigration rules and regulations. What do you suggest be done with those who came to the US as children through no wish of their own and know only the US as their country?

their parents are responsible for their fate. Why should the responsibility shift? They are citizens of another country if they were born there. How does their parents illegal behavior grant them citizenship?

Should we consider the lifestyle of a family if the parents are found to be tax cheats? Should they get government help to maintain the lifestyle they had when their parents were cheating taxes now that we have put an end to the cheating?

The parents behavior does not grant them citizenship. I even highlighted the part of the bill that states "Under the DREAM Act, 65,000 students could become conditional residents each year, and eventually become permanent residents and citizens if they comply with current immigration rules and regulations.

Give them permission to work, pay taxes and go to school. It's a win-win situation.
