Frank 'anti-contsitution' lautenberg aims to close non-existent gun show loophole

http://lautenberg.senate.gov/newsroom/record.cfm?id=311723&

Sens. Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ), Jack Reed (D-RI) and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) today joined Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and victims and family members of the Virginia Tech tragedy, to introduce legislation to close the nation’s “gun show loophole.” The bill introduction follows the tenth anniversary of the Columbine tragedy and the second anniversary of the tragedy at Virginia Tech this week. The legislation is cosponsored by Sens. Dick Durbin (D-IL), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Charles Schumer (D-NY), John Kerry (D-MA), Ted Kennedy (D-MA), Carl Levin (D-MI), Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Robert Menendez (D-NJ).

I see we have all of the 'smoking guns' as usual, though I have to say that Gillibrand is turning in to a regular old politician by sidling up to long time anti freedom democrats. Way to pull a John Kerry there, Kirsten.

The existing gun show loophole had nothing to do with the VA tech shootings.

However the gun show loophole needs to be closed. If you cannot buy a gun without id in a store you should not be able to do that at a gun show.

I know exactly what I am talking about. Not all states are the same on gun show rules though.

I saw a guy on TV buy a whole trunk load of guns and never show his ID. I have also bought guns at gun shows.
Money is the gun show sellers motive, not safety.

Remember now I am pro private gun ownership and also have a CC permit.

I don't care how PRO gun ownership you are, if you are pro regulation on private sales, you're not pro gun, you're only pro gun for YOU.

There should be no power whatsoever to run background checks on private sales by private individuals.

Yet one more thing I will refuse to abide by.

Private sales? Just how private is it when there are hundreds of gun sellers present in the organized event?

If more than one seller is present all sales should be regulated just like the gun retailers.

And even private sellers should request ID and record it for their own protection if the gun is used in a crime.

do you know the difference between a gun DEALER and a private seller?

If more than one seller is present all sales should be regulated just like the gun retailers.
thats totally fucking ridiculous, just like Georgias public gathering law.

most do, but it should NEVER be mandatory.

I already blew the opening article out of the water. there was no link to gun shows and the VA tech shooting. I was in Blacksburg when it happened and for a few weeks afterwards.

My Moms DR was the lead vascular surgeon on the team treating the victims.

you didn't blow shit except the idea that you MIGHT have had some intelligence.

there is no gun show loophole.

LOL Yea, we all know how the MSM puts out nothing but the unvarnished truth.

Yes, there are a number opf private sales that take place at gun shows. A popular gun show is a great place to get your best price when selling your privately owned firearm. This is the mis-named "loop hole" the anti-gunners (and some braindead so-called "pro-gunners" who haven't a clue about personal liberty) keep harping about.

The reason it is not a loophole (as falsely named - but when did anti-gunners ever tell the truth?) is because licensed dealers are very, very limited what they can sell "privately". For instance, a firearm dealer cannot buy a firearm from his own stock, "own" it briefly and resell it as a private citizen. That type of behavior will lose them their FFL, and if shown the resale was to a person who could not legally own a firearm, will land them in jail. An FFL holder CAN act as a mediary between a private seller and a buyer, but they can do that whether it takes place during a gun show, or takes place at other times.

Bottom line: the so called "gun show loophole" is nothing more than the ability of individual citizens to sell their private property. to close the deliberately mis-named "loophole" would require a moratorium on ALL private sales of firearms. You may like the feds interfering with your everyday life on all levels, but there are a whole bunch of us who do not like it - not even for some false sense of safety.

I have a number of firearms. If I desire to sell one I advertise it using various methods from word-of-mouth at the shooting club to classified ad in the paper, to walking around a gun show with a "for sale" sign attached to it. When I find a buyer willing to meet my price, I sell it. It is my property, I have the right to sell it as I see fit. That is called liberty.

This is the way I understand the so-called loophole as well. I thought maybe I mis-understood. Even at that, everytime I sell a firearm or buy one for a gift (for my nephews or neices) I record the numbers and keep them in a safe place. I know I am not required to do it and am not suggesting that we be required to do it but I do think it is good practice.

By your reasoning; huge swap marts, where people sell what they no longer want, should be looked at as a regular store.
