Fox reports: Assault at Trump rally questioned

A black protester being escorted out of a Trump rally in North Carolina by police on Wednesday was punched in the face by a white Trump supporter – yet the only person restrained and ejected was the man who was punched.

But McGraw was not arrested or detained Wednesday night, leading some to question the police response.

John McGraw was later charged with assault and battery and disorderly conduct in the assault, WRAL reported Thursday afternoon.

In multiple videos of the incident, Rakeem Jones, 26, is seen walking up the steps of the Fayetteville Crown Coliseum on his way out of the arena.

At least two Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department officers can be seen walking behind Jones as McGraw, with a pony tail and wearing a dark vest and cowboy hat, moves to the end of one of the aisles and, with his right hand, socks Jones in the face.

Jones is briefly obscured by a crowd of people as he reaches the top of the stairs, but, the next moment, he’s seen falling to the ground with a police officer on top of him.

Three cops then restrain Jones for several seconds, flip him on to his stomach and then eventually lift him up and finish taking him out of the Coliseum.

“The police jumped on me like I was the one swinging,” Jones told The Washington Post. “My eye still hurts. It’s just shocking. The shock of it all is starting to set in. It’s like this dude really hit me and they let him get away with it. I was basically in police custody and got hit.”

But CCSO public information officer Sgt. Sean Swain disputed Jones’ version of events.

“I couldn’t see if officers took him to the ground, or if he fell to the ground. We haven’t talked to the officers at the top of the steps,” Swain, who was at the rally, told FoxNews.com on Thursday. “As I looked up, people would miss a step and they’d fall. Until we investigate it, we can’t say our officers took him down to the ground. Now, we did pick him off the ground and escort him out.”

Violently attacking someone for having a different point of view and expressing that point of view through non violent protest is anti-American and not something we should be proud of or try and instigate. Calling for violence against liberals for protesting your candidate is violence towards the 1st amendment in my opinion.
 
The man clearly assaulted the protestor and should be held responsible for his act. The protestor was being escorted out and was no danger for anybody there and wasn't harming anybody on the way out except for maybe somebody's pride.
 
The Trump supporter who punched the man while the police were escorting him out wasn't detained, questioned or even charged until the next day, after a media firestorm embarrassed the Sheriff.

Instead, his officers detained the victim, and and roughed him up. It's visible in the many cellphone videos of the incident.

It's disappointing to say the least. Arresting the man that assaulted the protestor would have sent a message to the crowd in my opinion and would have possibly given people doubts about committing a similar act. If the cops were afraid of what the crowd might have done if they arrested the supporter then that's an even bigger problem in my opinion. I also think that Donald Trump should publicly state that his supporters should not act that way at his rallies or in public in general and that he does not support or praise the man's actions. If a ted Cruz supporter would have done that to a protestor i'd be just as disappointed and would be calling for Cruz to do the same thing.
 

Donald Trump told his supporters to “knock the crap out of” them.

“The security guys, we have wonderful security guys,” he told the Cedar Rapids, Iowa crowd.

And then he instructed his supporters what to do with any protesters.

“Knock the crap out of them, would you? Seriously,” he said. “I promise you I will pay for the legal fees. I promise. I promise.”

Trump supporter threatens protester after sucker-punch: ‘Next time we see him, we might have to kill him


John McGraw, the 78-year-old Donald Trump supporter caught attacking a protester, defended his actions in an interview posted by Inside Edition on Thursday.

“He deserved it,” McGraw said of the protester, Rakeem Jones. “The next time we see him, we might have to kill him. We don’t know who he is. He might be with a terrorist organization.”

McGraw was arrested and charged with assault and battery and disorderly conduct for punching Jones during a Trump event in Fayetteville, North Carolina on Wednesday.

But he showed no remorse for his actions in the interview, saying, “You bet I liked it. Knocking the hell out of that big mouth.”

The suspect justified the attack by saying, “Number one, we don’t know if he’s ISIS. We don’t know who he is, but we know he’s not acting like an American.”
