Facebook has been attacked by one of its founding members for "exploiting a vulnerability in human psychology" and putting children's mental health at risk.

Sean Parker, the former president of Facebook who joined Mark Zuckerberg'scompany in its first months, said the company's founders intentionally built the site to consume as much human attention as possible.
Parker, who has made billions as an early shareholder in the social network, also criticised Facebook's effect on children. "It literally changes your relationship with society, with each other," he told newsite Axios. "It probably interferes with productivity in weird ways. God only knows what it's doing to our children's brains."
"The inventors, creators... understood this consciously. And we did it anyway," Parker said.
Parker, a former hacker who founded file-sharing website Napster, said he had become a "conscientious objector" to the social networking site. His stint at Facebook was shortlived, resigning from the site in 2005 after a cocaine scandal.

He's just mad that they booted him out for his coke habit (and possibly for being portrayed by Timberlake in the movie). That said, he's probably correct.

Interesting. Yet my oldest grandkids (all teens) have FB pages and seldom post on them. They prefer Twitter and Instagram.

I know I waste about an hour a day on FB. Maybe another hour here. But then I'm retired and can waste all the time I want. lol

I only do FB.... I dunno how much time on it... Started when kids out of state & out of the country, good way to stay in touch..

Like I do

It's so sweet, isn't it? NMU offers free tuition to people over 62 so we can take up to 8 credit hours per semester for free. I've been taking some Native American Studies courses; have 8 credit hours lined up for next semester. Homework isn't "work" if you love doing it. Do they offer something similar where you are?

It sure is. My flock is scattered across the country; we can trade news, photos, ups and downs and life in general via FB.
Do you have any left nearby?

I still have one daughter down in Huntington beach but see here 3 to 4 times a year....:)

There is something so conflicting as a parent/grandparent in seeing your chicks fly far, but still wishing they were close to the nest too, eh?

Yep..........

Tonight I have a old friend, pushing 70 & we went to dinner & I got him set up on FB & showed him how to use it.. He was blown away when I showed him face time & it was free..

He has friends in Europe which he struggles to stay in contact w/ so I think he is going to really enjoy using it, the down side will be I will prob have to show him how to do everything, more than once........

Here is just one example of the dangerous side to Facebook!

A mob of angry Muslims burned down a Hindu village in Bangladesh after a rumor spread a local had insulted Prophet Mohammed on Facebook. One person was killed and at least five more seriously injured after 20,000 Muslims attacked Hindu homes in the village of Thakurbari, in the Rangpur Sadar region of the country, on Friday. Police fired rubber bullets and tear gas at the crowd after trouble flared when a villager allegedly posted a defamatory status about Prophet Mohammed.

I think a lot of kids see their parents on Facebook and don't want to be on it hence Instagram, Snapchat etc being so popular
