Flight 93 - Todd Beamer "Let's Roll"

There were many hero's on 9/11 and at the top of that list were the folks on Flight 93. Listening again to transcripts from that flight and the messages people on the flight left for loved ones while the plane was being hijacked is moving. Who knows how many lives they saved by their actions but they were true hero's for fighting back. Their memory and spirit should never be forgotten.

The Government PR guy who dreamed that one up after the US Military shot down that plane was a pretty smart dude.

Some folks even believe it.

Humor me. Are you mocking the 9/11 truthers or people like me who believe the story we’ve been told?

Great thread.

I watched a doc on Flight 93 yesterday. I know we remember these heroes, but I still think their courage isn't celebrated enough.

At minimum, they saved MANY lives. But had that plane crashed into the Capitol Building, who knows how far things would have gone. It's hard to speculate on that - but that day could have been so much worse.

They had such little time. They didn't even really pause to contemplate the threat to their own lives - they assessed the situation, realized what the only option was and went for it. True American heroes.

I'm not mocking anybody.
9/11 attack was obviously a real terror crime.
It would be nice to believe the story we were told about "Let's roll."

Not realistic, of course, but nice.

We know that our military shot down the hijacked civilian plane that was headed for the Capitol.
No other story makes sense.

I can sit here in the comfort and safety of my home and speculate how I might react in such a situation, but that’s all it would be - speculation.

Like you said, these guys didn’t really have time to think. They just reacted. And the thing is we have no clue these folks politics, and it is 100% irrelevant even if we did. Their actions as great Americans should always be remembered and inspiration for us all.

Flight 93 widow says husband's last words to her were "don't worry, we're going to do something"

"Even though that's a very big milestone, for me, this is the first year all of my girls are educated, out of school and are grown, working, living on their own, living out of state. As a mom who was so incredibly concerned 20 years ago about how I was going to raise these three babies on my own financially, emotionally, mentally, how I was going to do that, this is really the first anniversary in which I have been able to say I did it. I did it," she told CNN.

Thank you to all who came out to the memorial service in honor of CeeCee Ross Lyles and the legacy she left. #WeRemember#September11

Cee Cee Lyles was a flight attendant on Flight 93 and ex-cop too! She left behind two small children.

It's not true for the same reason TWA 800 wasn't shot down; if it was, it would have been revealed.

There were thousands of people and several agencies and groups evaluating both crashes. Any signs of being shot down would have been revealed.

That said, if it was shot down, why not admit it? The US was under attack and was about to be attacked again. The aircraft was headed for DC. Order the shootdown and announce "An attempt to disable, unfortunately, led to structural failure and a crash." Easy Peasy.

Do you really believe that? What proof do you have?

There you go. No group of more than 2-3 ppl can keep a secret for long. It would have taken a lot of ppl to have shot down Flight 93 than 2 or 3.

Agreed. Both in the air and on the ground. Air Traffic Control would have seen it and recorded both the audio and radar. Ground personnel servicing the fighter would have seen the missing missile or expended rounds of ammo. Even in the military, we have to keep the bean counters happy.

The NTSB, FAA, United Airlines, Boeing and ALPA would have been closely involved in evaluating the wreckage.

Yes. Ground witnesses would have also reported something.

Accident reconstruction alone would have shown a great difference between a plane that was hit by a missile, and one that was flown into the ground or crashed into the ground due to pilot action/inaction. You can't have a team of forensic investigators of only one or two people. Someone would have blabbed had there been evidence of explosives on debris, or merely in the scatter pattern.

I listened to a piece on Public Radio yesterday. That flight was sitting on the runway for about 1/2 hour, putting it behind schedule. Soon after it took off, the WTC had already been hit. Those passengers knew exactly what was going on when they made the decision to act.

Imagine if the flight was not delayed?

I was just talking about that w/ some friends.

Had it not been delayed, it probably hits the Capitol Building. Horrible to think about.

No we don't. In fact. one of the pilots who were sent up on the suicide mission gave her account. They had no time to arm their planes. One pilot was to take out the cockpit, the other the tail.

They never had to, as the plane took a dive as they got there.

In our current world with social media it seems very difficult to believe something like that could be kept secret. Seems like too many people would be involved with such a decision/act and somehow something would leak at some point.

The black box has plenty of audio, including one of the passengers who got into the cockpit yelling 'Up! Up!' referring to the controls. Having been overtaken, the terrorist put the plane into a spin.
One of the two pilots tasked with taking down the plane was doing interviews recently
