Five Myths about North Korea

I think that this article in the Washington Post is exceptionally prescient. It also nails the canard that they could be overwhelmed very easily, as some tried to maintain recently.

So why do we keep renegotiating with North Korea? Mostly because we have no other options. A military response could ignite a war on the peninsula, resulting in hundreds of thousands of casualties. Trying to topple the regime by other means is difficult without Chinese support. And slapping more sanctions on a country that has been under U.S. sanctions for more than half a century may be a tactic, but it clearly isn't a solution.

A leading newspaper of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Monday accused South Korea of lying in its propaganda over last month's Yonphyong Island shelling incident.

South Korea's claim that the DPRK provocated the incident is "a lie to the world," Rodong Sinmun said in a commentary on the meeting of top U.S., Japanese and South Korean diplomats in Washington on Dec. 6 .

South Korea used the incident as an excuse to accelerate its confrontation with the DPRK with the help of other countries, it said.

The move, the commentary said, has intensified the already tense situation on the Korean Peninsula and brought dark clouds of nuclear war to the peninsula.

South Korea would suffer "painful consequences" of the tension while the outsiders would benefit, and South Korea's action to "jugulate" fellowmen with outsiders is an intolerable "move of traitor," it said.

It was the first time that DPRK media commented on the Dec. 6 meeting of the top diplomats of South Korea, Japan and the United States, who threatened to jointly confront any "provocation and threats" of the DPRK in a post-meeting statement.

Tensions on the Korean Peninsula have been heightened since South Korea and the DPRK exchanged artillery fire on Nov. 23.

After the incident, South Korea and the United States staged joint naval drills from Nov. 28 to Dec. 1 in waters west of the peninsula. On Dec. 3, Japan and the United States launched their biggest-ever joint military exercises at bases across Japan and in the air and on waters around them, with South Korea taking part as an observer.

Perhaps you are too busy petitioning your bankrupt government for aid to follow recent world events.

WikiLeaks has recently exposed the source of global lying, and it is in Washington.

China does not take orders from your debtor nation, arrogant one.

Korea is about to hand you a big surprise, and you are powerless.

I have a question for you, American.

When is America the defeated going to flee Iraq and Afghanistan?

America is populated by witless juveniles who spout infantile insults and think themselves clever.

America is now bankrupt, so the reign of oppression and exploitation will soon end.

Korea has a surprise for you, soft American cowards.

You have shown you cannot win wars, so what will you do?

Ya might check with Japan about that

Just a polite POI:

Why do americans continually refer to the Peoples REPUBLIC of China as 'Red' China, is it because red is the colour of your right wing REPUBLICan party and you can see similarities in the enforced patriotism, scant regard for the truth and the growing wealth gap?

i will refer to red china as the prc when it becomes a true republic and becomes a free nation

Then we should refer the the usa as the idiotic nation who cannot see that its pretentions to empire have been dashed against the empty heads of its population.... until they get some sense that is.

And Great Britian will now be known as the Formally Great Britian.

lol, say what you will, red china is still a totalitarian nation that does not allow descent and is not remotely free

I think you meant dissent?

However, you need to understand that the freedoms you talk of would be totally impractical at this time in China. Unless you visit or are party to non-american news you are unlikely to know. The economic mirracle that is modern China would not have happened had it modelled itself on the US.

Ask yourself this: Why does the USA, uniquely, concentrate on issues of freedom and democracy in China when American politicians who have visited KNOW the facts, when American businessmen who have visited KNOW the truth.

The fact is that the US is scared to death that a nation rightfully villified in the forties and fifties and sixties is beating you at your own game. You just cannot face that fact. They are getting richer, you are getting poorer and all you can do is whine! Well, tough titty. You have brought it all on yourselves.

There are many bad things about the PRC but the differences and the progress that even I have seen should make americans, who seem obsessed with their own navels, quiver and quake.

The state of denial into which you are lulled allows the dehumanisation of your imaginary enemy.

Someone else did something similar in the thirties in Europe. Remember?
