Fiscal trouble ahead for most future retirees

It is only unsustainable because of the earnings cap, and the misuse of the funds by congress-critters. Why don't you complain about the causes rather than the symptoms?
Why should workers making over 106,000 not have to pay!
Raise the cap to 250,000

Just look at the history of the market. There is virtually no multi-decade period where returns weren't guaranteed at a fairly high level.

The market is not a casino. It is for some investors, but it's as predictably steady over the course of long periods of time as anything anyone can imagine.

Now, public SS - the system as we currently have it - is actually a huge gamble, because it is unsustainable. People need to take a look at how they assign "risk."

But if their SS is privatized then they have no choice but to play the game in a currently unsustainable market?

You understand that he stated 'the system as we currently have it'??? Which includes the two problems you mention. Privatization solves the second problem. So he is addressing one of the two.

WTF are you talking about? Who is going to pick them for you?

You understand what an index fund is? It is the entire S&P (or another index) all in one security. You don't 'pick' anything other than the amount you have exposed to equity. That amount would be restricted based on years until full retirement age.

No. Privatization hands more trillions of dollars to parasites who charge fees and often give poor, if not felonious advice.
It is NOTHING but a giant gift (or theft) from the very leeches who go unprosecuted. http://www.justplainpolitics.com/showthread.php?49488-The-joke-is-on-us.&p=1171300#post1171300

The main issue though, which you conservatards and apparently Oncelor refuse to understand, is that the masses live above their means, not from desire in the most part, but from a combination of flat wages and vastly increased cost of living.

During times Of regular employment, I have easily been able to put more than the minimum in 401-K accounts, because I am highly compensated, but the average person these days lives from paycheck to paycheck, often actually going deeper in debt each year, and completely incapable of sustaining private, regular investment.

Your goal is to take even more from these souls for the benefit of those who directly caused the misery in the first place. It is sick, and so are you.

Good lord Rune... that is simply the fear mongering bullshit that you have been fed from the Dems.

Which has little to do with social security being privatized or not. If anything you are making the case for privatization.

Yet they pay their SS taxes like the rest of us. That would continue.

Now you have simply gone off the deep end. No one is saying tax them more. We are saying take the SS tax and put it in private accounts for them. Your fear mongering and bullshit is not going to change that.

The word "privatization" has become to the left what the term "green energy" is to the right. Something to oppose without even thinking about it.

In each case, those on the right & left can share a common goal, if they can just put aside the ideology of it all. Most people who argue in favor of privatization do so because they want seniors to be more secure and comfortable. It shouldn't be a left/right issue. It shlould be a common sense issue.

Therein lies the problem. DC is void of common sense.

Says who?

You deny that Wall Street will get a cut? That "financial advisers" give poor or felonious information?

Laughing my ass off. You are delusional or lying.

It has everything to do with it. They cannot afford voluntary contributions.

It will? How would that be private? How do you know this? Where is this written?

I am not saying tax them more.
I am saying there is no need for them to pay vultures such as yourself a percentage of their money.
