Another year, another round of brawls over Nike Air Jordans.

The Air Jordan 11 Retro Gamma Blue, the latest model in the iconic line of basketball shoes, was launched Saturday. Eager shoppers, seeking to be among the lucky few to actually acquire the coveted item, lined up outside stores hours in advance and reportedly even fought over the shoes -- which retail for $185.

A video uploaded by Instagram user omgitsfez appears to capture the mayhem over the shoes inside a Finish Line shoe store in Stockton, Calif., Fox 40 reports:

A fight allegedly over the shoes also broke out in the Bronx, according to USA Today:

The limited-quantity shoe drew large crowds at stores across the country. Last week, customers even broke down a glass door outside a Champs Sports in order to get advance vouchers for the sneakers, USA Today reports.

Nike Air Jordans have a long history of causing trouble on launch day. In 2011, fights broke out over the Air Jordan 11 Retro Concords throughout the country, including a reported gunshot. The same year, police in Seattle used pepper spray to subdue a crowd of around 20 shoppers over-eager for the shoes.

:rofl2:

I love reading this shit, the animals fighting & killing one another over shoes. If only they put that much effort into getting a job.

More not-so-subtle racism? I have a fucking job and I can't afford $185 for tennis shoes, so you must be talking about some pretty affluent people who are fighting over these shoes. And they all must have jobs.

Only my personal experience, anecdotal as it may be.

Yeah because people who have no job and no money have a tendency to fight over who is going to get to pay $185 for a pair of tennis shoes. Whenever I am out of work, that is the first thing I do, I look for ads to see what new expensive accessory to go fight over!

What would make anyone think the shoppers weren't employed? Is there something about Air Jordans that screams "welfare"?

Michael Jordan was a Black man, so only Black people would buy his shoes and since some here believe that all Black people are broke and jobless but somehow still have $185 laying around for tennis shoes, it's just normal for the racists and Fux News to jump all over this kind of crap and pretend that only unemployed Black people are buying these shoes.

Where in the article does it say "animals" were "killing one another over shoes"! I don't see that shit anywhere! But this is how racists react to any story that they can put a racial angle to; the first thing they do is call the people in them "animals," but just because your ancestors bought and sold slaves like they were "animals" doesn't mean they were anything less than human beings even if they were owned like any other commodity. And now that we are in the 21st century you might want to let that Southern Bourbon Mindset go, because it makes you look uncivilized and more than a little animalistic yourself. Not that you give a fuck!

Your first mistake here would be the assumption that everybody goes through life sharing your values and priorities. Not so.

Your second mistake is assuming that "unemployed" people do not have jobs. It's probably unheard of in rural areas, and rare in suburban areas, but in the inner-city it's quite common for people to work "off-the-books," i.e., getting paid in cash. They have no reportable income, so are eligible to live in subsidized public housing, collect food stamps, and Medicaid. Any income from their illicit job is disposable income.

If you think $200 sneakers are unheard of in the inner city, you should visit a ghetto and see how many stores sell them there.

In fact, I suggest you pay your visit starting in January, so you can kill two birds with one stone. In January you'll also get to see all of the tax preparation businesses opening in vacant storefronts in the ghettoes. That's when the Earned Income Tax bonanza begins, the real Christmas-time in the ghetto.
