A San Francisco Bay Area nursing home that had agreed to provide long-term care for a 13-year-old Oakland girl declared brain dead has backed out.
The girls' uncle, Omari Sealey, says the facility — which was not named — withdrew after the hospital refused to insert breathing and feeding tubes necessary for her long-term care.
The girl, Jahi McMath, underwent tonsil surgery at Childrens Hospital on Dec. 9 to treat sleep apnea.
After she awoke from the operation, her family said, she started bleeding heavily from her mouth and went into cardiac arrest before being declared brain dead.
Childrens Hospital said in a letter Friday that it would release Jahi to another facility under certain conditions but that it would not perform surgery on someone it believes is deceased.
