Ex-MI6 chief Richard Dearlove credits WikiLeaks wiith tidal wave of revolutions

cancel2 2022

Canceled
Former British intelligence chief Sir Richard Dearlove gave a speech not long ago where all recordings were prohibited. During that talk, he credited secrets outlet WikiLeaks with helping spark revolutions across the Middle East, saying they provide a stark example of the ways technology is changing how people relate to their governments.
Unfortunately for Dearlove, someone in the audience was recording, and now the whole world gets to see his formerly restricted speech.

This video was published to YouTube on 2nd March, 2011.

As far as Wikileaks exposing secrets I feel, as a democracy, we have to know what is going on. Terrorists indiscriminately bomb/kill citizens and we question their "civility". We have to remember our governments (democratic governments) are an extension of the people.

In contrast, if we look at Saddam or Muammar Gaddafi we know their actions were/are not those of the citizens so we are not fighting the citizens. The citizens were/are not responsible for the actions of Saddam or Gaddafi.

What is being hidden from us? For our own safety we have to know!

I think you'll find the revolutions were caused by the realisation, among people of the middle east, that democracy is possible due, in no small part, to the democratisation of Iraq and the subsequent domino effect. 100% fact.

The release of the US cables regarding Tunisia acted as the catalyst to the subsequent overthrow of Ben Ali's regime. His wife and his extended family were hated anyway, but the revelations about their grotesque extravagance was just too much to bear for the impoverished masses.

Bollocks, Tom.

It was all down to the glowing sphere of democratic light which is modern day Iraq.

Deny it all and claim it was down to your computer telephones as long as you like but it won't make you right

I doubt that you watched the video as judged by the rapidity of your initial response. I am not sure who you will believe as your inbuilt set of young..well youngish fogey prejudices always seem to win out.

cute, but that doesn't take away from the preposterous claim that assange gets the credit for the revolutions...

judging by your posts, it appears you agree that assange is responsible....why do you believe that?

I often wondered what happened to Jonathan Aitken's trusty sword of truth?

"If it falls to me to start a fight to cut out the cancer of bent and twisted journalism in our country with the simple sword of truth and the trusty shield of British fair play, so be it. I am ready for the fight. The fight against falsehood and those who peddle it. My fight begins today. Thank you and good afternoon."

Reading stuff into my posts is one of your failures.

A man unjustly imprisoned.

It was clearly a fit up job.
