Everyone on this debate stage knows more than Trump

He can't talk about issues like they do. On every issue, they have at minimum thought it through carefully, and each presents options & proposals for how they would handle.

Of all of the surreal things about Trump, that ranks pretty high - he just doesn't know his way around actual issues very well. His campaign is always very simple messages - build wall, election stolen, drain swamp. And there is something to be said for simplicity.

But there is nothing to be said for being ignorant about most issues. I don't think issues or policy interests Trump beyond the core ones that he cares about. And you can see it in his campaign: what exactly is he campaigning on? The border, election stolen, drain swamp. Anything beyond that?

The debate has moved to the absent front-runner, Donald Trump. Most of the candidates are delivering only glancing blows at the man far in the lead. Haley said she would not institute a Muslim ban. DeSantis said Trump wouldn’t be a dictator because he did not even fulfill his campaign promises in his first term. But Christie laid in, calling him “an angry, bitter man.” He added, “Failing to speak out against him, making excuses for him, pretending he is a victim, empowers him,” suggesting that his opponents’ deference is why Trump is so far ahead.
