This is the heart of the issue
a. catastrophic environmental damage
b. catastrophic economic damage
c. loss of human life
d. loss of planet life
we have but one environment. there is no dispute we need oil now and for the foreseeable future. the US has HUGE amounts offshore in its exclusive economic zone. do we end all production and all future production?
does this leave us beholden to other countries? yes...and we are developing alternative energy sources. for now, the foreseeable future (50-100 years) is it feasible to end all offshore oil production and drilling?
there is no question the latest oil leak is a catastrophic. do we place our need for oil on the hands of others, or do we take the risk and develop for ourselves? do we simply turn our backs and let other "people" make our oil for us, because we are environmentally friendly? is it much easier to let others ruin their environments?
honestly...what are our choices?
