This is the heart of the issue

a. catastrophic environmental damage
b. catastrophic economic damage
c. loss of human life
d. loss of planet life

we have but one environment. there is no dispute we need oil now and for the foreseeable future. the US has HUGE amounts offshore in its exclusive economic zone. do we end all production and all future production?

does this leave us beholden to other countries? yes...and we are developing alternative energy sources. for now, the foreseeable future (50-100 years) is it feasible to end all offshore oil production and drilling?

there is no question the latest oil leak is a catastrophic. do we place our need for oil on the hands of others, or do we take the risk and develop for ourselves? do we simply turn our backs and let other "people" make our oil for us, because we are environmentally friendly? is it much easier to let others ruin their environments?

honestly...what are our choices?

I agree it time for Gas and Oil to be a thing of the past. Wind solar and hydrogen to take its place.

Okay, Yurt.... Whenever you attempt to be 'poignant' and the first person to agree with you is wanderingbear.... there's your sign! It really can't get much more apparent you have wondered into LaLa Land.

The first flaw in the concept of eliminating the need or dependency on oil in our society, is the sheer magnitude of doing such a thing, it's not practical or possible to eliminate the need for fossil fuel in America. It won't be for quite some time, maybe another couple hundred years, when we have perfected plasma-nuclear powered 'engines' which run for thousands of years with no external fuel source... until this Jetson-like future gets here, we are dependent on fossil fuels for our very civilization. That is just a fact.

We can do things to help curb our dependency, but the left wants to control our lives, and just force us to accept a life without oil, as if that is something we can or will ever do. Conservatives, by definition, believe in conservation, most of us are avid outdoors men (and women), and have a great love for nature and the environment. But drilling for oil is something that is vital for us as a nation, it's not something we have the option to just stop doing. So we have to find a way to drill for oil where it doesn't damage the environment, or when it does, it is minimal and not like what is happening in the gulf.

Self reliance is naziism. making something for ourselves when we can buy it from a tyrant is morally wrong.

End All Offshore Oil Production/Drilling

Wow.

I have yet to hear one legitimate policy maker, or one sane politician suggest we put a permanent end to all offshore drilling and production.

So, with all due respect this question is in the same league as asking if Santa Claus exists, or whether there's a global conspiracy of lying climate scientists.......i.e., it's wholly without merit.

I don't think we're all going to be driving the Willie Nelson chicken grease engines anytime soon.

no one said policy makers or politicians suggested this, nice strawman....if you can't forumulate a response due to your limited cognitive abilities, stfu

i'll take your post as a no....and i agree with that, despite the fact you had to be a douchequeef about a question that some are in fact asking...it is a relevent question today and a simple no will suffice

I think it's comical thanks yurt.

i do as well...but those on the far fringes want this

it is a threshhold that needs to be addressed....some on this very board want to end all new production and drilling....my questions are not that far fetched if you think about it

you're such a dumbfuck....how did wanderbear AGREE with anything i said, given i made no opinion and asked only questions

ignorant tard

You asked a question that has no merit. No offense, that's just a fact jack. It's like asking if the Easter Bunny is actually real.

I take a back seat to no greenie when it comes to hugging spotted owls, but its impractical, unfeasible, and bat shit crazy to immediately put a permanent stop to all offshore drilling and production. The reasons are so self evident, that I won't bother listing them here.
