WASHINGTON ― On Monday, surrounded by other white men, President Donald Trump signed an anti-abortion executive order that has far-reaching consequences for women’s reproductive health access worldwide.

Trump reinstated the Mexico City policy, also known as the global gag rule, which was first put in place by President Ronald Reagan in 1984. It prohibits giving U.S. funding to nongovernmental organizations that offer or advise on a wide range of family planning and reproductive health options if they include abortion ― even if U.S. dollars are not specifically used for abortion-related services.

The United States spends about $600 million a year on international assistance for family planning and reproductive health programs, making it possible for 27 million women and couples to access contraceptive services and supplies.

None of that money is spent on performing abortions. The Helms amendment has prevented U.S. tax dollars from funding overseas abortions since 1973. Proponents of the global gag rule believe the policy is nevertheless still necessary, arguing that Helms isn’t strong enough by itself.

The executive order is one of the first Trump has signed since taking office. Sitting in the Oval Office Monday, he also signed ones freezing federal hiring and withdrawing from the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal.

A pan of the people standing by his side showed that there were few, if any, women present.

So two days after millions of women around th world marched against Trump, he gives them reason for their efforts.

Priceless

Look at those self righteous pigs standing there all happy and satisfied with themselves.

I wonder how of them have paid for abortions for former girlfriends, mistresses and daughters.

Two-faced assholes.

I'm sure they have but the point is that THEY have paid for them. I don't think the taxpayer should pay for any abortion outside of maybe rape (which would include most incest). And don't try to give the argument that they (the politicians) are paid by the taxpayer therefore the abortion is being paid for by the taxpayer, that's a bullshit non starter.

the reasoning is foreign NGOs are not careful to wall off abortion money from reproductive health services.

A missed opportunity...he should have been surrounded by the fetal remains of a hundred aborted children....

... OR 100 at-risk children in hopeless situations so he could tell them to their faces that he isn't going to do shit for them because he only cares about dead children.

Why won't their parents release them for adoption instead of killing them?....

Because they aren't killing them, their ending a life before it's ever born. A life THEY are responsible for, not you.

Republicans are only pro-UNBORN-life. Once born, they couldn't care less about that life.

Well they can be "responsible" for it with their own money. Or if you feel strongly enough about it, you could dig deep into your own pockets instead of whining on a message board?

Kudos President Trump.

Good point about the pockets.

Where are all the Hollywood people, or George Soros for that matter? If abortion in other countries is such an important issue to them, fund it.

There's no justification for US taxpayers footing the bill. We can't even manage our own veterans.

Enough already.

This is the same EO signed by all Republican Presidents since Reagan and has been overturned by each Democratic President when in office.
