Typically, the government needs a separate court order to seize someone’s passport, even temporarily.

When you are at the airport, or at an international border, the US Government can demand your passport. If you do not hand it to them, and they can prove that, you have just committed a crime. The passport belongs to the US Government, and can be seized on demand.

A passport at all times remains the property of the United States and must be returned to the U.S. Government upon demand.

All I need to know is that an independant source, NOT The NY Post but some IT expert or legal expert who has verified the chain of custody of the data wasn't broken and that the data was examined and determined to be legitimate.
