In California the voters have sent a message to progressives by voting to recall progressive SF DA Chesa Boudin and forcing a runoff between a popular black female progressive Democrat and a white male former Republican billionaire running on a get tough on crime platform for Mayor of LA.
In other races, Trump backed candidates are not faring as well in primary races as Trump and his minions had hoped, either squeaking by with razor thin victories or in many cases, losing outright to more moderate candidates.
In NJ a new Moderate Party has formed.
This for me is reason for a glimmer of optimism. Hopefully, the silly season is almost over in American politics, with extremism is on its way out the door and common sense walking up the driveway, approaching the doorstep.
If anyone has ever bothered to take note of my positions on social justice matters, they might recall that for some time now I have been highly critical of the progressive "AOC" wing of the Democratic Party. AFAIC, they are dragging my party down and making it more difficult to win elections with silliness like backing BLM and calls to "defund the police" all while crime is running rampant in American cities, most of it minority gang related.
The only thing that has kept our party afloat in terms of viability, is the equally egregious and outrageous behavior of the Repugnant Party and their leaders, mainly Donald Trump of course, but his shameless toadies in Congress, the J6ers and the J6 deniers as well.
So I see this "progressive backlash" as it's being called, and something I've predicted, as well as the cracks in the Trump wall, as a possible harbinger of good news for us all.
Here's hoping for a mass return to a good old fashioned common sense world where, not only does each side of the ideological spectrum NOT get everything it wants, but doesn't EXPECT to get everything it wants.
