It was never about eliminating antisemitism. It was always about silencing Palestine. That is what the gagging of protesting students, and now the gagging of faculty, was always meant to lead to. While partisans of the Israeli-American mass slaughter in Gaza may have been offended by their protests, large numbers of the students whose rights of free speech have been infringed upon via draconian punishments were themselves Jewish.

Columbia _COULD_ have struck a blow for decency. They could have said "YOu want to withhold our federal grant funds? Well, fine, we have a $13 Billion endowment...we'll work with outside groups and dip into our giant Smaug-pile of gold and defend the rights of our people to talk and believe as they want!"
If this is a long-term destruction of the universities by Trump and the MAGAts it won't matter what Columbia actually does. Kowtowing to the mouthbreather demographic for not being sufficiently biased to one side of the debate isn't going to stop the mouthbreathers. Tomorrow they will come after the unis for a different reason.
Can college kids take concepts TOO FAR? Damn straight they can. And that's nothing new. Do they get hyperpassionate about stuff? You betcha. The answer is NOT to "disappear" them into El Salvador, the answer is NOT to treat one side like it is evil.
Of course we can apply common-sense limits to what students should be allowed to do (physical intimidation is right out!) but just camping on campus and screaming through a cheap bullhorn is still fine. Even if one is advocating for a side you may disagree with vehemently.
