Dixie, who do you predict will win in November?

Well it depends on your definition of "win" I suppose.

I think it will come down to the wire in maybe two states, and will be reminiscent of 2000, with pinheads claiming McCain stole the election from poor little Obama.

What's crazy is, I think if you guys had nominated Hillary, you would beat McCain with no problem. Obama was a very bad choice, in my opinion. The only reason he is even in the race is because McCain was a worse choice for Republicans.

The Reps don't have a good history of electing Moderate Republicans. George H.W. Bush is the only exception I can think of in modern times, and that is only because Reps thought he had learned something from Ronald Reagan. When they realized he didn't, they didn't bother re-electing him. But look back through history, when republicans go with a 'moderate' they get beaten by the Dems.

If McCain wins, it will be because the conservative base just held it's nose and voted for him in spite of principle, and in fear of an Obama presidency. People will talk about this great swath of "centrist" support McCain received, but it isn't the "centrists" who will vote for McCain, they are all voting for Obama because heeee's cute!

I don't like McCain, have never liked McCain, and probably won't like McCain. The more he talks, the more he seems to piss me off as a conservative, it's almost like he has contempt for conservatives and wants to just piss me off! I listen to his speeches, and he sounds like a cross between Hillary and Lawrence Welk, I look at his body language and expressions, and he makes me think of an LBJ-like, stubborn and hardheaded asshole. I don't know if I can get drunk enough to vote for him, I am still contemplating it. Like I say, the biggest problem for Obama is, he is Obama. I think he does more to energize McCain's base, than McCain does!

Yes, that was rather ingenious of the populists. Their crowning achievement as Republicans is losing an election. What else can they do?

My commentary wasn't about populists, they voted for the populist candidate, Clinton. The Reagan republicans elected HW Bush, on the basis he was Reagans VP. And even the Moderate HW was sounding like a Reagan republican at nomination time, his tough sounding "read my lips" pledge was custom written to enthral the Reaganites, and it did. Then he reneged on his promise, and they didn't re-elect him. Moderate Republicans never do well in General Elections, because we are not a Moderate Republican nation, we are Conservative. This is why even a devout liberal like Obama needs to "run to the middle" and sound like a Conservative. In fact, the only candidates who don't have to do this are rock-rib Conservatives, like Reagan, they win in landslides.

Don't shit yourself Dixie. Reagan won against two of the easiest Democrats to run against this century. A real Democrat would've won over that fascist America-hater in a heartbeat. There's no telling how much clear damage Reagan has done to America - in the 30 years since he was elected, the American breadwinner is making far less per capita, and the ultra-rich are growing by leaps and bounds. America is falling behind Europe and China. Say what you will about those "liberals", but Europe and China never had a chance against us while they were in power. Reagan didn't conquer stagflation, Carters appointee, Volker, did. It makes sensible Americans wish that Hinckley had taken better shooting lessons.

America is going to prove to us in 2008 that they aren't evil heartless conservatives. They want a future. A liberal future. Obama is the stepping stone to taking America back from the conservatives who've seized power against the wishes of the people and making us great again.

Yeah like Goldwater.

You are delusional.

Friendship terminated.

America hates the cancer that is conservatism.

LMFAO.... This is why every president we've ever elected was more conservative than liberal. We all suffer with this cancer and just can't help that we keep electing conservative presidents... hmmm... it's a theory, I suppose.

.......infact.... the closest we've ever come to electing a LIBERAL president, is Clinton, and he had to make 37 appearances at churches and gospel singings, attend 14 weekly services with Hillary and Chelsea, and carry a Bible around everywhere he went for a year, to get elected.

Yes Waterhead, you are living in Fantasyland with your pink bear, apparently.

Dixie your abysmal lack of knowledge of history is shocking to those who don't know you. The Republican party's best presidents, with one exception, have all been either moderates or progressive's. Lincoln, TR and Eisenhower we're the best Republican Presidents and were not conservatives. In fact most of the Republicans worst Presidents, of whom 6 are considered among the very worst in US history, Grant, Harding, Hoover, Cooledge, Nixon and George W. Bush were either conservatives or in Bush's case a reactionary. Only Nixon was a moderate.

Needless to say you can't differentiate between a true conservative, like McCain and reactionary extremist, like W.

It really goes to show were your values are and, to be quite honest, how fucked up they are.

I'm the exact opposite of you. I'm so incredibly optimistic about the upcoming election. Who ever wins will be a very fine President. One that the whole nation can be proud of and who will not be an international embarrassment or a divisive partisan like our current President.

Obama is a great candidate because of his competence. Here's a boot strapper from common origins who wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth and didn't ride on his daddy's coat tails to fame but earned his way into Harvard and has been successful at all he has applied himself to.

McCain is a great candidate because of his character. A true war hero who didn't dodge his responsibilities and paid for that with 7 years of his life and permanent physical disability. A man who has proven he will do what is best for our nation over partisan politics.

So unlike you I feel great about these two candidate. There vastly superior to some inept and divisive partisan blue blooded hack.

FDR and Truman were a lot more liberal than Clinton. Jimmy Carter was more liberal than Clinton.

You live in a fantasyland where Americans hate freedoms and want our economy to die. They don't. And that's conservatism.

Nixon a Moderate? LMFAO... No, Nixon was a Conservative. Also, by today's standards, Lincoln, TR, and Eisenhower would all be considered Conservative.

Needless to say you can't differentiate between a true conservative, like McCain and reactionary extremist, like W.

I can differentiate between a Social Conservative and a RINO.

It really goes to show were your values are and, to be quite honest, how fucked up they are.

Thanks, coming from a commie socialist, that is a compliment!

Well of course, we have two Liberals running against each other! I guess you are excited!

...Which apparently hasn't been very much.

He's proven he will kiss Liberal ass if it will get him some airtime.

So unlike you I feel great about these two candidate. There vastly superior to some inept and divisive partisan blue blooded hack.

I remind you of who won the bet on the last presidential election, and where in the fuck is my beer, btw???

I might tend to agree with FDR being more liberal than Clinton, but Truman wasn't, he is one of the few Democrat presidents conservatives can identify with and respect. Carter was about as Socially Conservative as GWB, if not moreso! You are outta your goddamn mind! We've never elected a fucking Liberal president!

Truman supported universal healthcare. He had a very tough personality but that has nothing to do with being a conservative. Tough liberals are strong people, tough conservatives are assholes.

And why didn't Truman enact Universal healthcare, if he supported it? Truman was SO conservative, he was loathed by the Democrats and put in the VP spot to get him out of the way! He nearly lost re-election, he was so Conservative. When he pissed, it formed the word "conservative" in the toilet before he flushed it! His policies were as Conservative as any by today's standards, you can live in a fantasyland all you like, say hello to the bear for me.
