Did Trump purposefully use outrageous rhetoric to get elected and then become moderate?

Trump also told the Journal that he would bring the country together and that "I want a country that loves each other." But that grace did not extend to any reflection on his coarse rhetoric.

When asked about whether his language was inappropriate, Trump said: "No. I won."

Trump's rhetoric was just Trump being Trump; and it happened that his bombast got him though the primaries but became a liability in the general.

I was never convinced it was anything more than bombast. So it doesn't surprise me that President Trump is kinder and gentler than candidate Trump. In fact, I don't know how many times I've heard people who knew Trump personally describe him as being a warm and caring person.

If I have a good bead on him [I haven't missed yet lol] my guess is that Trump is sincerely anxious to unite the country and get to work making deals and get things moving in the right direction. The man is a bona fide workaholic.

It's the art of the deal baby.

You mean - is he a fraud like all politicians?. Wouldn't surprise me. But i still think he'll be the best president of the last 5. I just want him to declare war on the illegals.

I was telling anybody that would listen months ago that he was going for the redneck vote. He also targeted blacks by implying that their jobs were going to Hispanics. How else could he compete when Clinton was comprehensively outspending him?
