The United States will never become like Florida, and DeSantis will never become president either?!!
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ chances of winning the GOP nomination from ex-President Donald Trump have plummeted, thanks to his obsession with the word “woke.” In fact, evidence suggests he’s made the word “woke” immensely popular these days through his crusade to eliminate it.
It’s hard to believe that between November 2022 and January 2023, DeSantis was just 14 percentage points behind Trump in eight surveys from RealClearPolitics. Now, Trump’s lead has ballooned to 33.25 points in all eight May surveys that I looked at.
Pundits tried to excuse the plummet, claiming it’s more about Trump’s indictment, which fails to account for DeSantis’ own individual numbers dropping. It’s not because Trump “attacked” DeSantis or created stupid nicknames; Trump does that to everyone. It’s not because DeSantis didn’t announce he was running this spring, because he sure acted like a presidential candidate. And DeSantis’ Dukakis-like cold fish campaigning style is more of a pundit concern, not a voter concern.
But what we do know is that DeSantis and his Florida GOP allies turned in a cringe-worthy legislative session that would appeal only to the most conservative voters and turned off moderates and even regular Republicans.
Everything seemed to include the word “woke,” which DeSantis tries to work in at least once per sentence, like this message: “As president, I recognize that the woke mind virus represents a war on the truth so we will wage a war on the woke. We will fight the woke in education, we will fight the woke in corporations, we will fight the woke in the halls of congress.”
