DEMOCRAT
A super PAC urging Hillary Rodham Clinton to seek the presidency in 2016 drew on some of the nation's biggest Democratic donors to fund its efforts, new campaign filings show.
Billionaire financier George Soros, philanthropist Jon Stryker, Wal-Mart heir Alice Walton and art dealer Larry Gagosian, all wrote checks for $25,000 each to Ready for Hillary.
In all, 36 people donated the maximum during the last half of the year, accounting for nearly a third of the group's total fundraising haul during that period.
Other donors include New York investor Silda Wall, who is divorcing former New York governor Eliot Spitzer, and Hollywood director Brett Ratner, who donated $5,000 and $10,000, respectively. Henry Cisneros, who served as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development during President Bill Clinton's administration, gave $5,000.
The group previously announced that it raised $4 million in 2013, but its filings offer more detail about its fundraising and spending.
Ready for Hillary took in more than $2.7 million in the last six months of 2013 and spent roughly the same amount, funding consultants, travel and list-building.
Another super PAC, Priorities USA Action, is expected to focus on raising money in larger amounts to fund an advertising campaign to back Clinton.
