We have a new mayor, and the new mayor, Donna Deegan is a Democrat. Given the geographic characteristics of Jacksonville, that result is huge. Although Deegan was leading by a narrow margin, this is an upset. But it may also be the canary in the coal mine. Jacksonville doesn't really have 'suburbs', those suburbs in Duval county are all a part of Jacksonville. It was, until yesterday, the largest city in the US without a Democratic mayor.
Along with the Trump backed candidate winning the primary for Kentucky governor, this appears to strongly signal that Republicans are going to nominate Trump and a bunch of Trump candidates who can't win in a general election.
Republicans are pretty fucked. I was shocked by the result. Based on what I saw at my early voting location, I think turnout may have been very strong.... for Democrats.
