I like Penny Mordaunt she is is not only a cracking looking woman but is also highly intelligent, competent and articulate.

  • Barack Obama insisted Britain in a strong EU was vital for the Nato alliance
  • The President flew out of the UK today after three days of backing the EU
  • Penny Mordaunt, a Vote Leave spokeswoman, blasted Obama's warning
  • The Defence Minister warned the EU actually hampers security and Nato

A British defence ministers today accused Barack Obama of 'woeful ignorance' after he claimed Britain should stay in the EU because it boosts security. Armed Forces Minister Penny Mordaunt, a Vote Leave spokeswoman, said EU judges and the free movement rules make national security harder to maintain. The US President flew out of Britain today after a three day visit in which he hammered away at a call for Britons to back EU membership at the referendum on June 23. Mr Obama infuriated Brexit campaigners by claiming Britain would be at the 'back of the queue' for a bilateral trade deal with the US, insisting Britain's influence in the world was 'magnified' by EU membership.

But Ms Mordaunt, who worked for former president George W Bush before entering Parliament, told the Telegraph Mr Obama was wrong. She said: 'Unfortunately this opinion betrays a woeful ignorance of the practical reality of the EU's impact on our security, and the interests of the UK and the US. Obama warned on Friday that divisions in Europe will weaken Nato, but often those divisions are caused by the EU itself.

'Obama confuses collective action and defence through Nato with the integration-at all-costs-and-damn-the- consequences ideology that too often motivates the EU.' Ms Mordaunt claimed free movement created 'alarming weaknesses' in security because ISIS terrorists were able to travel 'unimpeded' across the Schengen zone and she claimed the European Court of Justice has 'repeatedly' undermined the ability of Britain and America to share intelligence.

The Minister urged President Obama to ask the CIA to 'explain to him' why a new EU intelligence agency will help. In a BBC interview today before he flew on to Germany, Mr Obama repeated his advice to Britain to stay in the EU. But he admitted the intelligence and security relationship between Britain and America would survive a Brexit vote. Following his talks in London, he said: 'We’ve been focusing on lots of things, including intelligence sharing, given the very real threat from terrorist groups around the world. 'They wouldn’t be affected in the sense that our intelligence teams work extremely close, our militaries work extremely closely together.'

This is sort of like saying that the lack of draconian border controls between each state in the US creates alarming weaknesses in security. You're supposed to control them at the one border. Having a thousand just makes things annoying and confusing.

Britain is too independent to be integrated into the EU, if the EU integrates at Britain's speed we'll still be waiting here in the year 3000. It's a hindrance. They should be given a free trade treaty and otherwise be treated like a buffer state between the EU and the US.

Yeh right, then pray tell me how well that worked in the Schengen Area? Maybe you haven't noticed but EU countries are reintroducing border controls to keep out economic migrants. Thank fuck for the English Channel and our staying outside of Schengen Agreement!!

The UK isn't even part of Schengen.
No it isn't but the rest of the EU is apart from Ireland. I guess you don't know about all the migrant camps in places like Calais where they wait for lorries to sneak aboard and go through the Channel Tunnel.

We don't want to integrate thanks very much, we were promised a single market not a United States of Europe. Brussels is corrupt, incompetent and effing useless. I might also add that many other countries in the EU are waking up to the facts.

They should do what they're told, as befits a lackey state.

Trump won't forget the UK tried to ban him, so there's no option there.

They must kneel to the mighty United States of America, or go to the end of the line.

We don't really care what the UK wants, the EU is more important than the UK. All I care about is the UK impeding the EU's progress.

Frankly you can take your opinion and stick it up your arse, the EU is in terminal decline run as it is by mediocre jobsworths who are unelectable in their own countries. Surely as a supposed lefty you would vehemently against TTIP, of course that supposes you even know what it is?
