Debate flares after black college students seek a non-white roommate

In most respects, the roommate-wanted notice seemed routine. Three students at the Claremont colleges in Southern California were looking for a fourth this summer to join them in an off-campus house. They added a caveat in parentheses: “POC only,” they said, using a common abbreviation for people of color.

When a classmate challenged that condition, the Pitzer College student who posted the notice on Facebook pushed back. “It’s exclusive [because] I don’t want to live with any white folks,” wrote Karé Ureña, who is black.

What a fucking racist.

If the situation was reversed and the add had been for a WPO (white person only) or comments were posted that said "Black people have cause[d] so much trauma on these campuses … why in the world would I want to bring that into my home? A place that is supposed to be safe for me?”, there would be protests in the streets and calls for the writer to be expelled.
Plus the ACLU would be taking the other roommates to Court, in a civil rights case.

True story.

That's OK. I still love rubbing stuff like this in their unwashed faces! :)
I understand. One of things that keeps me out of the liberal camp is their massive hypocrisy regarding race. Their attitude, not all, towards racial issues is so lopsided and they don't realize that it actually perpetuates racism, as much as stupid racists.

This racial discrimination could be racist, but this racial discrimination is not likely racist in nature.
People of color are very rarely true racists.
See my signature for the definition, if you need clarification.

I love the way that you, as a white man, feel that you have the authority to speak on behalf of other ethnicities. That is true arrogance to my mind.

If the situation was reversed

How many times do we find do ourselves beginning comments exactly like this?

None of this matters any longer. We've lost. Equal Protection means Special Protection.

And it will continue to become increasingly special.

LOL, I called that, you are so predictable Legion. As I predicted the phony racism watchdog doesn't think this is racism. What a phony POS.

Wash the grime off yourself, hack.

"A Sigma Alpha Epsilon brother at Yale turned dark-skinned students away from a party this weekend, telling them, “No, we’re only looking for white girls,” according to a student who said she witnessed him standing on the front steps and blocking a group from entering. Those girls looked startled and walked away, said Sofia Petros-Gouin, a Columbia freshman who was visiting friends at Yale over the weekend. She described a stairway crowded with people trying to get into the Halloween party, and the fraternity brother, who was white, repeatedly saying, “White girls only,” and letting only blond women enter."

You think that is racist but not this, right?

Housing discrimination is much more onerous then "party" discrimination. anti-Housing discrimination is actual US code

Simone Manuel made history on Thursday night in Rio when she tied Penny Oleksiak in the 100m freestyle to win a gold medal, becoming the first female African-American swimmer to win a gold for the U.S. in an individual event. The accomplishment by Manuel was incredible and significant, and it led to tons of celebration from American fans. The 20-year-old Stanford student also made headlines throughout the country, though one was not as kind as others.

The San Jose Mercury News insulted Manuel by omitting her name from its headline and simply calling her an "African American." The Northern California newspaper scrambled to try fixing things after receiving some backlash, but they screwed up the amended headline by forgetting the word "with."

On take three, they finally got it right. The new headline stated "Olympics: Stanford's Simone Manuel and Michael Phelps make history." The Mercury News also apologized for the original headline.
The newspaper elaborated in an editor's note on the article.

"The original headline on this story was insensitive and has been updated to acknowledge the historic gold medal wins by both Simone Manuel and Michael Phelps. We apologize for the original headline. The story has also been updated," the note said.

At least the newspaper apologized for the original headline, though there isn't an excuse for making a mistake like that. Then again, we also couldn't believe something like this could happen, and it did.

Seems as if Christiefan is meeting my prediction. Doesn't seem to have a problem with this racism and wants to deflect about other racism.

That was an underlying part of my point.

Looks like Black Privilige to me.

You seem to have left out some really damning information:

That night, no one with a Yale ID was turned away before 11:15 p.m., the member said. Yale and New Haven police had responded to noise complaints at the party, and brothers were told not to let anyone else in, to avoid crowding. He said numerous students have said a woman who was denied entrance angrily challenged the man who stopped her, screaming: “It’s because I’m black, isn’t it?”

It was uncomfortable, he said, in part because that brother is African American and others working the door at the time are Portuguese and Costa Rican; he described the chapter as racially diverse. He said some in Yale’s black community have called black SAE members “Uncle Tom” on Monday, making them feel like they are being forced to choose between siding with the fraternity or others of their race.

And then, this is part of the " complaint":

“White girls only,” and letting only blond women enter.

I guess Brunets, Red Heads, and those with Dark Hair were also denied admittance. :palm:
