Deal Reached, Crisis and Default Avoided... Downgrade inevitable.

It seems pretty clear that the TEA folks are not economists.

I don't really get this package. I don't get why loopholes that only the wealthy can generally take advantage of were off the table. I don't get the sense in massive cuts now while the economy is still floundering.

It all seems pretty crazy; our gov't just isn't functional anymore...

It seems to me that there are NO economists in DC

1) There are NO massive cuts.... they are cutting $1trillion from the DEFICIT spending. Overall spending is still increasing.
2) It is indeed insane to think that closing loopholes/deductions/subsidies should be off the table.

In case I haven't said it recently enough.... I truly HATE the idiots in DC in both parties....which totals a minimum of 537.

Moody's wanted a 4 trillion dollar cut in spending- I still think there are enough power brokers to avert a down grade... We shall see.

This deal does NOTHING to reduce debt as a percentage of GDP. which is why the idiots at S&P and Moody's are threatening a 'downgrade'. These same idiots that rated Enron investment grade prior to its collapse. These same idiots that rated the subprime mortgage packages AAA. Why the hell are any of us listening to S&P and Moody's? We should be instead prosecuting the bastards for gross negligence.

That said, we deserve to be downgraded.

The more I read about it, the more dismayed I become. It's like they did the minimum possible to avert a crisis right now.

No one in DC is capable of making a tough decision, because everyone is concerned more about the next election. They should realize that it won't be as prestigious being an elected official for a 3rd world country.

We'd be better off w/ lifetime appointments...

If they set this years spending the same as last years, it would have resulted in a "cut" of 9.6 trillion over ten years. This is due to baseline budgeting that grows government 7% annually, automatically. This compromise didn't cut government at all.

the economy is growing at less than 2%, but to show you how much congress has us by the balls we are supposed to guzzle the jizz of 7% gov growth and say that's OK. WTF

I would argue going the other way.... term limits

That said, the anger is building. I am hearing it from clients who reside on both sides of the aisle. The main difference is that they are not just pissed at the 'other' party right now. They are pissed at both.

The idiots in DC have presumed that because politicians have gotten away in the past with pushing problems into the future that they too will be safe in doing so. They are going to be quite surprised when they find themselves getting slapped down.

My response was not support of Moody's or S&P- It was a response to the idea that I think there are power brokers in DC who are working to avert a down grade.

well you are old, dumb as a bull and walking in a country other than your own. nuff said

'Nuff said'. Yes, still trying to come to terms with the English language. Perhaps you should just give it a rest and try something else, like becoming house trained.
Just exactly how old are you and was there a problem that meant you could not go to school?

I wish I could say that I'm disappointed at how things turned out but that would imply the possibility of them turning out another way, both parties are engaged in pissing contested and have about the same ability to work together that preschoolers have to control bladder movements. They don't care because it's not their money and they'll still have paychecks no matter how it goes, and for the most part they sit around, complain how its all the other side's fault and how they tried their best.

I haven't been paying attention to politics for 3 years and already I want to bring back beheadings, remove all the dead wood from washington and install a king, at least then we might do something

Tell me when this downgrade will come so I can point out how miserably wrong you are once again!

Remember when WMD were going to be found in Iraq.

Hey Jarhead... The downgrade came and went, and since you didn't have the chance to point out how wrong I was, I thought I might take the opportunity to point out how wrong YOU were, and how right I was. By the way, the WMD cache went to Syria before we ever invaded.

Yeah, I know... I'm never right about anything... I always get it wrong.... unless I get it right and you just completely ignore it.

Perhaps one day you're shitty country will finish rioting and you will go home, maybe you can start a message board.
