In January 1973, he was charged under the Espionage Act of 1917 along with other charges of theft and conspiracy, carrying a maximum sentence of 115 years. Because of governmental misconduct and illegal evidence-gathering, and his defense by Leonard Boudin and Harvard Law School professor Charles Nesson, Judge William Matthew Byrne Jr. dismissed all charges against Ellsberg in May 1973.
Ellsberg, along with others like Manning and Snowden, are why conspiracy theorists are full of shit; such secrets can't be kept long.
The Pentagon Papers shocked the American public into action.

Doubtful, and outside of the Murdoch bubble, they still do, problem with conservatives, they don’t want to read, would rather have cable infotainment tell them how to think, guarantee you have never actually read newspapers such as the NYT or WP
