We've all heard about it by now - the Cruz campaign told voters in Iowa that Ben Carson was dropping out so that they'd instead caucus for Cruz.
But getting caught out with that hasn't stopped the campaign.
In the latest round of attempts to deceive voters, the Cruz campaign has sent out letters with the words "Check Enclosed" in bold letters on the front of the envelope. It's also got a return address of "U.S. Senator Ted Cruz" with his senatorial office address.
Inside the envelope is the fake check, a letter, and a donor form where one can fill in their personal information - including credit card information.
Now most people aren't going to fall for this, as we're fairly familiar with mail scams by now. But there ARE people (usually the elderly) who will see this and get very excited to think they're getting a check - mainly because they're on strictly-fixed incomes. And by and large, those are the same people who won't read much further for whatever reason (whether they're lazy, illiterate, can't see well enough to read or just plain stupid). They'll just sign the fake check, fill in the donor card with their credit card information, then send the card back and try to cash the check.
Does anyone actually think that this mailer is a good idea?
The only thing it's good for is to show that there's another reason we don't want Ted Cruz in the White House - underhanded, sneaky tactics are not what we need.
