An Ohio police chief took to Twitter to condemn the cop who fatally shot an unarmed black man, saying he's "sick and drained by some cops doing things like this."
Middletown, Ohio Police Chief Rodney Muterspaw spared the officer no sympathy with his Tuesday post that quickly made its rounds on social media.
"As an officer I am so sick and drained of some cops doing things like this. You are making us all look bad. STOP,” read the tweet, which had been shared thousands of times.
The Ohio top cop was reacting to the fatal shooting of 40-year-old Terence Crutcher in Tulsa, Okla. A Tulsa police officer fired a single fatal gunshot at Crutcher while she investigated his idling SUV in the middle of a street.
Crutcher, who was unarmed, is seen on video of the shooting with his back to officers and his hands in the air.
Muterspaw told CBS affiliate WKRC-TV that he has been in similar scenarios as Shelby but hasn’t resorted to using lethal force.
He said he will use the Tulsa shooting as an opportunity to train officers on his force.
Social media users sounded off on Muterspaw’s post lauding him for calling out his fellow cop.
The night after Muterspaw's tweet, another black man, Keith Lamont Scott, was fatally shot in North Carolina by Charlotte-Mecklenberg police officer Brentley Vinson after police say he refused to drop his weapon. Cops were attempting to serve a warrant to another man who lived in Scott’s apartment complex.
