Compromise for Confederate Statues

What's wrong with my proposal? Obama is the first black president and has a very high approval rating. He should get a place on Mt Rushmore. What's wrong?

seriously? what don't you understand about "historical perspective"- it takes awhile to set in

Keep the Confederate statues up, but put Obama on Mount Rushmore and/or on the $100 dollar bill.
How about putting a statue of Obama next to the statues and monuments! He could stand behind the sitting Lincoln, lean up against the Washington Monument and stand on a drone next to Robert E Lee.

I say we take the stupid participation trophies down and put the awesome first black president in their place

Good idea. A giant Obama statue, draped in the American flag, with one leg atop the Robert E. Lee statue in victory (a la Captain Morgan).

This allows the statues to remain while putting them in historical context.

No question that Obama currently is, and will be ranked by history as a top tier president, within the top 15 if not top ten.

I like the humour of your idea.
But, I have never liked the idea of deifying American presidents. I mean, Mount Rushmore is a bit over the top, when you think about it. It has the foul whiff of how totalitarian states deify their dear leaders. And I do not think it respects America's founders who were largely men of the enlightenment, of the renaissance, men who in theory stood against the divine right of kings and privilege.

BTW he was half black

Good point. Obama is an even better candidate to be used as the symbol of racial healing from a historical perspective. Black and white, embodied in one popular president. The personification of racial harmony.

Too bad that Trump supporters just see him as another black immigrant from Kenya. But their opinions will soon be irrelevant.

I might have agreed with you if he hadn't fucked up Libya, and allowed the birth of ISIS. If Trump does anything as bad he will also be duly castigated.
