Colleges Want to Know More About You and Your ‘Identity’

For college applicants, this is the year of the identity-driven essay, the one part of the admissions process in which it is still explicitly legal to discuss race after the Supreme Court banned affirmative action in June.

A review of the essay prompts used this year by more than two dozen highly selective colleges reveals that schools are using words and phrases like “identity” and “life experience,” and are probing aspects of a student’s upbringing and background that have, in the words of a Harvard prompt, “shaped who you are.”

Johns Hopkins is a private university.
Like a private country club, they can ask applicants whatever they want to ask.

Do I think it's stupid?
I think it's scary stupid,
so let's not allow it to go on in our tax-funded academic instutiions.

Just tell them what they want to hear, I did that for many years in college.

It's how you ensure you get good marks from your professors.

Find out their views and agree with them.

College is not the place for dissent.

This was not the paradigm in effect at the private eastern university that I attended in the 1960s.
Grades weren't the least bit indicative of the individual student's social views.
Quality of presentation was the determining factor, regardless of views presented.

Many hard conservatives got excellent grades here in the liberal northeast--just not inarticulate, illogical ones.

That isn't how it works now.

In fact I had one professor who's class didn't require a textbook it required you to get a subscription to the New York Times.

As soon as he said that I dropped the class.

I can't think of one professor who was a conservative, at most they didn't share their political views if you were lucky.

When I was getting my degree Bush 2 was in office and the hate from the left towards Bush was so strong that if you said anything to the contrary it would affect your grades.

I had kids in eastern private colleges right up until my daughter's graduation in 2000.
If things have really changed that much, it's a fairly recent phenomenon.

Yes, it changed with Bush and the Iraq War.

The hate became notched up a level and you can see that with Bush, Sarah Palin, and now Trump.

It is getting progressively worse.

I can't imagine what someone like a Desantis would face if he were to win.

This, I will say up front, is not to be construed as a threat.
Rather, it's just a fervent wish and a pleasant thought to contemplate.

If DeSantis were to be elected,
the most appropriate thing for him to face
would be bullets.

When the insane right comes up with a process,
I won't reject it if it's serviceable.

As I said, the hate on the left is extreme.

I hate Pelosi but I would never wish her to be killed.

That is what I was talking about.

I would, BP, love to read your (hypothetical) college, applicant essay in which you set down aspects of your identity and and the life experiences that have shaped you.

That would be one for the books !!

It seems to me that it would be like Nicolay Gogol's famous short story, "The Diary of a Madman." It could well go viral, BP !

Instead of the protagonist in Gogol "Diary of a Madman," whose reason progressively unravels until finally he ins incarcerated in an insane asylum. You you recount the your progressive, mental decline from delusion to obsession to hallucination and frank psychosis that ultimately transformed you into card-carrying, righteous, Democrat ideologue who believes the Sun shines out of Joe Biden's freckle!

Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha !!...... I'd give good money to read it for comic relief, dude !!

Dear TP,

What about Joe Biden? Biden is a (grandiose) Narcissist. Like a classical psychopath he has no capacity to experience empathy or compassion. He has no moral conscience and views other human being in a purely instrumal manner.

Of the many shocking examples of Biden's callous immorality and grossly - inflated ego, let just consider one to illustrate the point.

Biden's (illegal) open Souther border policy has to date encouraged something like 7.5, 000,000 illegal aliens to enter the US without vetting and pretty much no questions asked.

We know for a fact that this policy has enabled foreign drug smuggler to import MASSIVE amounts of super-lethal, Chinese fentanyl (an extrordinary, potent opioate drug).

Last year this drug, fentanyl killed (poisoned) some 105,000 Americans (mostly young people between the ages of 18 and 45).

In order to give this cold statistic some personal meaning, think to yourself how you would just after a police officer or a hospital doctor told you that your husband, or one of your children, or one of your brothers or sisters, etc; had just died from ingesting fentanyl ?

Joe Biden knows full well that fentanyl smuggled across his open Southern border is killing young Americans in epidemic proportions, but he point blank REFUSES to secure the border because his diseased ego will not allow him to admit the deadly mistake he has made.

I think the blood of these countless thousands of young people in on his hands, but he doesn't give a rat's-ass. To me Justice demands that he be immediately executed by firing squad for mass murder.

I have no moral qualms whatsoever in stating this.
