Chicago Gun Laws At Work: At Least 13 Shot Citywide

REALLY? Does it matter what kind of law is used to control GUNS or GUN SALES? How is a zoning law that controls the flow or distribution of guns not a gun law? And it's only about an hour's drive to Kenosha, WI. Maybe in 1913 that might have slowed someone down that wanted to avoid gun laws, but not in 2013.
you don't think it's plainly moronic to ban guns from your city, then blame your gun violence on everyone else? talk about infantile responses.

STY, happens with booze - one county is a "dry" county; the one next door is a "wet" county. People from the dry county go to the wet county to buy all their booze, and bring it back to the dry county. Oftentimes they drink on the way so there are more accidents in the dry county than there might otherwise be, but even without those - drinking related incidents in the dry county are definitely due to the wet county next door.

Is the dry county supposed to just give up its laws because another county allows booze? It may not be able to influence the county next door; but drunken events in its county are due to the county next door.

Maybe you can come back with something a bit more cogent than "infantile"?

yes, they should just give up it's laws OR, and here's a damned stretch of the imagination, start prosecuting the drunk drivers more vigorously. the same with gun laws. If a city/county/state wants to do something about it's level of gun crimes, start going after the criminals instead of declaring a bullshit ban and then whine about it now working because the criminals bring in the contraband from another locale. THAT is infantile.

Are you all fucking missing the obvious? What would Chicago be like without the current gun laws? Maybe it's working like a god damn charm and that's the reason there aren't many more dead.

That surely isn't saying much about the people of Chicago.

NO, I think it's moronic NOT to pass FEDERAL REGULATIONS so we can at least try to control the flow of gun across guarded national borders while dealing with the out of control gun violence within our borders. It's the patchwork nature of our gun laws (the few that we have and actually enforce) in a country that has free and easy movement of people and things that is the problem. That said, I do not begrudge Chicago or NY trying to find SOMETHING to help, if not solve, their local problems in the face of so little help at the federal or state level.

Beyond that, we need more than JUST better gun laws. If we put half the funds into solving the problems that give rise to gun violence that the current level of such violence costs us, we might eventuality dig our way out and stop the flow of blood on our city's streets.

This is a real question not a rhetorical one. I know we spend billions trying to stop the flow of drugs into our country with I'm sure some would argue limited success. If we put similar type money into stopping the flow of guns into this country what type of success do you believe we would have?

classify all the dead and wounded, categorically. figure out how many are gang related, as in gang against gang and the rest as non gang. then do the rest of the criminal stats. after that, we can work on finding out if it's the laws or not.

the 'patchwork' nature of gun laws is nothing more than some communities trying to place greater restrictions on our rights than others. it's obvious that gun laws/restrictions are not the answer, whether local, state, or federal.

i'm all for finding other ways to solve the major precursors to guns and gangs, without infringing on the 2nd Amendment rights of the rest of us.
