Should the President of the United States be a hands on leader like a COO, or in-between like a CEO, or kind of hands off like the Chairman of the Board?

I think theres not enough hours in a day for a COO type president. Theres just too many things going on.

Only way to do it would be chairman of the board making sure you select the right guys then maybe being coo on a couple of key issues.

What title would you give to our most recent Presidents?

Its hard to say, because the inner workings of the White House are generally not well known. It is said that Reagan was a Chairman of the Board type and that Carter was a COO type.

Its also said that, at least in the first term, GWB let Cheney be the CEO and GWB operated like a Chairman.

CEO imo. Cabinet are his direct reports.
Like any good CEO you put the most competant guys you can find in those roles. NOT polititians.
The citizens are the chairman.
