can the pentagon's budget be cut

We could cut the Department of Defense budget by $200 billion and they wouldn't even feel it. IMO, $400 billion is a bit too much, and unfortunately the DoD seems to be the only department where Obama is committed to cut spending. I think a compromise of $300 billion over the next 10 years would be fine, so long as the Democrats are willing to reform entitlement programs.

how about defunding the Iraq and Afghanistan wars?

So long as our troops are in Iraq and Afghanistan, I think defunding those operations would be a terrible idea. Wouldn't you agree?

I'm all for bringing the troops home. What I'm not for is pulling the plug while they're there, putting our troops at risk.

Dude, you need to do some homework. We could cut our defense spending back to pre September 11, 2001 spending, take that amount and cut it in half and we would still be spending more money on defense then the rest of the world combined.

What the "rest of the world" spends is irrelevant. Most European countries barely have a military, why? Because WE defend them. Is this what you advocate, dismantling the military?

The USA is a very large country and it will inevitably cost hundreds of billions of dollars to defend it. I'd be fine with a 30% or possibly even 40% reduction over 10 years, but gutting the military would be sheer lunacy. Yet again, you prove that you're no "moderate."

my intent was to bring the troops home first after all the savings is supposed to be over 10 years
