California Leads Nation In Funding For College Dropouts

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A study says California spent the most money in the nation to educate college students who dropped out after their first year.

The report by American Institutes for Research found the Golden State spent $467 million on first-year dropouts from 2003 to 2008 in grants and funding to state colleges and universities.

The report says the college dropout rate is highest after the first year — 30 percent nationally. California’s dropout rate is about 15 percent.

The study points to the need to improve retention rates at colleges and universities and find out why students leave.

The report analyzed federal data on retention rates at hundreds of four-year colleges and state and federal education funding.

I'd like to hazard a guess that the reason why many freshman drop out at the end of the 1st semester/year is because they show up to party and are way to immature to handle the responsibility at this point in their lives.

see that is a problem, when i started i college, i knew i was there to party, so when i got all F's, i responsibly reapplied to party again the following year...i did not give up and drop out!!!
