I'm looking at cities between San Fran and La to consider moving to.
Right now I'm looking at Santa Cruz, right above Monterey Bay. The wife and I love to kayak, play tennis etc. Would that be warm without being to hot in the summer (love the low humidity in Huntington Beach). What's the vibe in Santa Cruz is it liberal?

You can't go wrong with anywhere on the central coast, between santa cruz and santa barbara, if you can afford it. Santa Cruz.... hot? Dude, the summer time highs here on the coast are like 70 degrees. Its the marine layer from the alaska current that keeps the temps down all year long. As long as you live on the coast. You're going to get your ass baked in the summer if you live any more than 5 miles from the coast.

I dig Santa Cruz. It's totally liberal and hippie-fied. No worries for a stoner like you. I don't think there are many mouth-breathing slack jawed Bush voters there.

Anyway, Santa Cruz, to be honest, is a little grungier and funky. If you're into that. Personally, I dig funky and groovy. If you want something more yuppie-fied, Monterey, Carmel, or Five Cities (Pismo Beach, Arroyo Grande, etc) is more amenable to the yuppie class. As is Santa Barbara. Bottom line, is if you're willing to pay more money, any place on the central coast is going to be paradise in terms of climate, scenery, and quality of life.

I don't know about tennis man, but if you're into the ocean sports like I am, Monterey Bay and the rest of the coast here is totally awesome for scuba, kayaking, surfing, etc. Man, I practically live in the water. Wet suit required though, that Alaska Current makes the water butt cold. Watch out for the Great Whites man! I don't body board at sunset or sunrise, that's when those f*ckers are out for a meal.

Dude, all I can say is bail on Louisiana. Other than cajun food and cafe du monde, I don't miss that crap at all. Except for Mardi Gras. That sh*t was the bomb. The alligators were cool to! Later, man.

Cypress gave you a pretty good break down. He's a lot more familiar with the Central Coast area than I am.

I concur, Cali can be awesome if you stay away from the big cities. Central coast is top shelf. Just, truly a great place to be.

How far north can you go and still get that 70's low humidity summer. I don't mid the grundge but I"m guessing my more straight laced wife would prefer yuppie ville. Kayaking Monterey bay sound like a huge draw to me. I can't afford an ocean view may have to settle on a small house a couple miles from the Ocean. Gotta get the medical MJ card and Chill. I might actually look at San Fran/Concord for a transfer before I retire in a couple years. thanks

Anywhere on the central coast is going to be 75 degrees and low humidity, as a general rule. 60s in the winter. As long as you live within 5 miles or so, of the coast and within the marine layer. Generally, farther south is a little warmer, with a little less fog. Santa Barbara and Arroyo Grande are a few degrees warmer, whereas Monterey and Santa Cruz are a few degrees cooler with more marine fog. As you are aware, it's all pretty pricey, so be prepared to drop some bling if you want to live here. As for me personally, I really dig Monterey Bay, the Carmel Area and the whole Big Sur coastline. I would never live in the Bay Area again, except that there might be more jobs there in your field, I don't know. Yeah, if you live in East bay, Walnut Creek or Concorde would be pretty cool. I haven't lived in the bay area in 15 years, so I'm not a real expert about the cool areas. I have friends in Pleasanton and Concorde, and that seems to be kind of cool, if you're into that whole suburban thingy.

We have an Office in Concord. My sis who lives on Knobb Hill in San fran says Walnut Creek is the place for me ie. Tennis, suburbia I'm in a planned hood in Cov which she says will be triple cost in Cali.

it's not even debatable that the end of prohibition would jack up the economy like nobody's business.

Monterey was nice when I lived there (I was in the Navy, not yuppified). Great place, but expensive... big time.

It gets hot when you are out in the East Bay suburbs. Walnut Creek though Concord doesn't have humidity but it regularly reaches the 90's to 100 degrees during the summer. Walnut Creek is not cheap either. You're looking at least $600k at the low end for single family homes although they do have cheaper condo's. While it is the burbs Walnut Creek has a great downtown with good restuarants and night life. You also have BART access to SF. Concord is more affordable and is straight suburban life.

I'd prob do concord unless Walnut creek has killer tennis clubs. We have an exec here recruiting for possible transfers.

Plans are changing. We outsourced the jobs in concord ca to Argentina. I'm now thinking central Cali coast less populated quieter little less expensive looking retirement vs continuing to work. any ideas, climate as less populous main goal.

you might try morro bay or if you want cheaper try lompoc

depends on how far south you want to go

I know I check a comparison yestarday.
Napa 78 degrees 63% humidity
Covington 94 degrees 63% humidity

don't think that hot is what we are used too, I think central coast would be cheaper and better climate. But if we rent we'll have plenty time to explore, she found a nice rental in a vinyard with no close neighbors. Can we say medical ghanja crop!
