In 2020, former Green Bay Packers QB Bret Favre, who earned over $100 million during his football career, found himself embroiled in a scandal involving the theft and misdirection of millions of dollars in funds from TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families), a federal welfare program designed to help the poorest of poor families obtain food, shelter and other basic necessities, in order to construct a sports facility, with $1 million going into his own pocket as payment for TV ads and speaking engagements.
The scheme diverted $5 million in TANF funds to build a volleyball arena at Favre's alma mater, Southern Miss, where his daughter recently played volleyball.

Now, as his involvement is becoming clear via messages he sent which suggest he had knowledge of what was going on despite earlier denials, the repercussions are beginning to manifest themselves in the form of lost sponsorships, shunning by the media, etc.
For all those who might be surprised by the likely involvement in a scheme to rip off welfare in order to fund a sports related facility by a man who is so incredibly wealthy, the $1 million he was paid for it amounts to pocket change, let me point out....

And what do these people hate more than almost anything?
Welfare.
This was probably less about him making another paltry million, as it was about sticking it to a lib'rul institution.
