"So the bad news, or depending on your point of view, the good news, is that NEA and its affiliates will continue to be attacked by conservative and right-wing groups as long as we continue to be effective advocates for public education, for education employees, and for human and civil rights. And that brings me to my final and most important point. Which is why, at least in my opinion, NEA and its affiliates are such effective advocates. Despite what some among us would like to believe, it is not because of our creative ideas. It is not because of the merit of our positions. It is not because we care about children. And it is not because we have a vision of a great public school for every child. NEA and its affiliates are effective advocates because we have power. And we have power because there are more than 3.2 million people who are willing to pay us hundreds of millions of dollars in dues each year because they believe that we are the unions that can most effectively represent them, the unions that can protect their rights and advance their interests as education employees."
Not that it will shock too many.... but I will side with Cato on this one. It would certainly appear the ad is misleading (at best) regarding the Cato study.
that said...
That full quote above is why I don't think we need public unions.
Yes, we know you favor public slavery, that is all![]()
We know you like to insult the memories of those who were actually slaves by comparing a lack of bargaining for benefits to slavery.
1) The public union workers can still request different benefits and wage increases beyond inflation via a referendum. So only the method has changed, not their ability to ask for more.
2) The public union workers are not in any way forced to work there. They have a complete choice in the matter. They are not beaten and killed if they try to 'escape to freedom'.
But please, do continue comparing the public unions to slaves.... I am sure that will win you support for your position.

There was a form of slavery where you worked to pay a debt, like in Biblical times, so I wasn't diminishing the slavery of the African Americans or others brought to this country.
I should have said indentured servitude, but I forget making a funny on here gets bent so badly by all the anal andys.
Sorry.... but that is still completely false. It is in no way indentured servitude. Not even close. Perhaps you should actually LEARN what terms mean before using them?
