border security and big government

there is a lot of border to secure and at what cost

the only way to truly keep people out would be to heavily patrol the border or install a 'berlin wall' - since most of the southern border is desert, it might be a good training ground for troops to be sent to the middle east but the law states that us troops may not be used on us soil unless martial law is declared for the area - a cure worse that the disease

and there are not enough national guard people to do it even if you count all of ca, az, nm and texass troops (just for the southern border) - unless other states want to contribute their national guard people - perhaps they will considering that illegals permeate the entire nation...well not hawaii and not many in alaska

also, remember that all illegals are not latino - so we have problems with illegals from asia and europe - people 'overstaying' their visas

we cannot even keep the drugs out, let alone the people

and let us not forget the canadian border

also, there is the problem with illegals coming here via boats so we would have to significantly increase the coast guard

not to mention how much controlling our borders would add to 'big government'

The "Berlin Wall" was created more to keep people in behind it and not from being able to enter where it was erected.

a wall is a wall is a wall - it is designed to keep people from crossing it - in the case of the berlin wall, the guns helped keep people in

do we want to shoot people trying to cross if they are unarmed

You're now delving into the reasonings of the absurd.
Please let me know when you have moved past this and have returned to actually wanting to have a conversation.

not as absurd as you might think

there are us citizens with loaded guns patrolling along the southern border

no wall will really keep people out unless you are prepared to use lethal or non-lethal force

but back to my original question, is the us willing to expend the resources needed to better seal our borders

what would you recommend to solve our illegal immigration problem

my recommendation would be to offer citizenship to those working in the us and their families and/or a wider green card program

Yes. And defending the border is kind of the most important function of a military. It's only a violation of posse comitatus is they try to place americans under martial law or control them in any way.

so we could deploy military personnel army/navy(or coast guard) to patrol our borders, but at what cost because it would have to be 24/7

that is a lot of border - northern with canada (do not forget alaska) and southern

then we would have to go after the illegals (not just latinos) (all 13+ million) already in the us...all paid for by the voters

at a minimum of $10,000 per illegal ($130,000,000,000) plus the cost of patrolling the border

oat, think of the number of people that would have to be employed - talk about big government

the cost of enforcement may be higher since instead of using the military they will have to hire more border guards...
