Black voters say they won't forget Trump's racist tweets

Robin D. Stephens lived through Jim Crow and thought the worst days of racism were behind her. Then President Donald Trump told four American congresswomen of color to "go back" to where they came from.

"It was very hurtful to see the person who is the leader of the country that I live in and that I respect and love, speak that way to U.S. citizens," said Stephens, a 61-year-old retired public defender who lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

But Stephens is tired of talking about Trump's racist tweets. She is ready to take her pain to the polls.

"I see more people engaged and responding to the comments, people who aren't political, friends of mine who vote more casually, they are responding," said Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes, who is black and from Milwaukee, where Democrats will meet to declare their nominee at the party's convention next summer.

In 2016, black turnout was down about 7 percentage points nationally compared with 2012, according to census estimates. Barnes said the president's comments are resonating with people "in a more real way" than past statements he's made, which could translate into increased turnout next November.

There's a reason black turnout was down. One of their own for which color was the only reason they voted in 08 and 12 wasn't running. If that's not enough to prove that skin color was the only consideration, nothing will convince you.

A public defender, huh? Bet she spent many years defending many of her kind that couldn't stop committing crimes.

What's funny about her rant is that she fusses about Jim Crow yet voluntarily stays on the Democrat plantation where, despite their claims, treats her in a manner she claims to hate.

True. Black voters generally don't care about elections unless there is a black candidate running. However, black voters are going to care about the next election because Trump has used anti-black racism in his reelection campaign.

Since none has been used by Trump, they'll only care if Spartacus Booker or Horizontal Harris is the nominee.

What makes you an expert on why black voters don't care about elections unless there is a black candidate is running? Please tell me. Hint I am not white.

No one is excited about Harris which is why she is trying so hard to gain the support

Willie Brown is.

The problem with Horizontal trying to gain support is she's trying to do it using identity politics with her race and gender. Her reaction to Jussie's false claims proves that.

That's false. If it was true then black voters would never have voted in elections prior. Turnout was down in 2016 because some felt Hillary was a sh*tty candidate and all her and her husband's actions from the '90's came back to haunt her.

That's your problem is you don't accept the truth. In the end, whether you accept it as the truth is irrelevant. It doesn't change that is it. Your acceptance isn't required. You seem to think that it does.

Look, we both know the tweets were racist, but you're not going to admit they were. Fine. What really matters is that Independents recognized them as racist. And that means they were a mistake.

Like CFM said, voter turn out among Blacks was relatively low for every election with the exceptions of when Obama was running.

Notice I said generally. Of course some Blacks will always vote.
