An African-American man pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court to charges that were filed after he mailed two threats ostensibly from the Ku Klux Klan to O'Fallon authorities warning them to remove blacks from the city or their homes would be burned down.
"Get all the blacks out of O'Fallon before we start burning the(ir) houses down. KKK warning," said the letter sent to City Hall.
Justin Lamar Kidd, 28, formerly of O'Fallon, was convicted of two counts of maliciously conveying false threats and faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $500,000 fine, court documents state. He is being held without bond and is set to be sentenced Jan. 13.
The threats were mailed in November 2006.
