Va. lawmakers look to stop climate change probe
January 18, 2011 - 4:00pm
RICHMOND, Va. - A power struggle is unfolding in Virginia over climate change research.

Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli has been taking the University of Virginia to court to get information on a climate change researcher who once worked at the school.

Now several members of the State Assembly say they've had enough and have introduced legislation to rein in Cuccinelli's investigation.

Cuccinelli, a global warming skeptic, is looking into whether UVA professor Michael Mann manipulated data to show that there has been a rapid, recent rise in the Earth's temperature.

Democratic Sens. Donald McEachin of Henrico and Chap Petersen of Fairfax County say their bills won't give blanket immunity to colleges to defraud the state, but they would curb politically motivated probes.

McEachin and Petersen, both lawyers, said Cuccinelli had abused the authority the office obtained under a 2002 law.

Their legislation would force Cuccinelli to sue and obtain subpoenas as is required of other civil litigation. This would afford defendants the right to defend themselves.

Whats the big deal..............is the truth gonna hurt the Democrats or their agenda...???

You get really confused when things cant be simplified to a sound bite, doncha sailor.
The planets seven warmest years since records began in 1880 were: 1998, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010.

Now I'm sure that one could show evidence that the change is insignificant if we time it from say the extiction of the dinosaurs and I am sure that you could find evidence to show the exact opposite. Trouble is stats are the invention of man, not of nature. And whatever the spin introduced by either side we, as responsible human beings, and I'll include you in that for the moment, have an obligation to take care of the place that gives us life.
You may dribble and drool and shout 'warmers' at passing traffic and blame democrats for the passing of each day if you wish. But those of us who care will always care and will do what we can to lessen the damage we do.

all within .018 of a degree!!

statistically insignificant

we can't measure the average global temp that precisely

Really....thats odd....those are exactly the same years that UVA professor Michael Mann is accussed of manipulating data ....hahahahahahaha

Damn, I'm having fun....

Now really dude...NO ONE wants to harm the earth and make it any less hospitable to our existence....you can't seriously think that anyone wants polluted water or dirty air, etc.....
The warming stats ARE statistically insignificant and there is no emergency that would require the nutty liberals to go hog wild with burdensome taxes, or nutty regulations, or demand we stop using oil or drillling for it or require idiotic windmills for power or gerbil driven autos.....and lying tgo further the liberal agenda is dangerous and will not be imposed on us without a fight.

Damn, I'm having fun....

Well, I got the figures from The Guardian having never heard of the gentleman you mention. I THINK the Guardian got them from NASA which, unless there has been a major geological shift, is in YOUR country.
I am glad you are having fun, but then I doubt it takes much to amuse you. mwah mwah, kissy kissy, sailor.
Take care, my little matelot, that you don't mistake me for someone who gives a shit about the opinions of a mentally deranged yank skate.

Country is going to hell in a handbasket and our intrepid neocon assholes are wasting time grandstanding with repeal bills that won't pass and wasting court time trying to slander/discredit any and everyone that poses a policy threat to their corporate masters....and our resident neocon parrots just squawk with glee as they vote to pay for corporate greed through the nose. :palm:
