President Biden wants to enact a sweeping overhaul of our nation’s top retirement program, but the math associated with his reforms may not add up. For many of Social Security's more than 66 million recipients — 49.1 million of whom are retired workers — the monthly income they receive is vital to their financial well-being. Over the past 20 years, between 80% and 90% of the retirees national pollster Gallup has surveyed annually have responded that Social Security benefits are needed, in some capacity, to cover their expenses.

Superficially, the reforms Biden proposed in 2020 achieve two goals: They would generate additional revenue from high-earning worker,s and would likely increase benefits for older Americans, lifetime low-earning workers, and for all beneficiaries over time via the use of the CPI-E in place of the CPI-W.

Unfortunately, the president's plan has an unmistakable flaw that would make its passage virtually impossible on Capitol Hill.

In October 2020, not long after then-candidate Biden unveiled his four-point Social Security reform plan, The Urban Institute, a Washington, D.C.-based think tank, analyzed the impact it would have on the program's trust funds. While taxing high earners would extend the life of the trust funds before benefits cuts would become necessary, Urban Institute found that Biden's three additional proposals would negate most of this revenue boost. It was estimated that Biden's four-point plan would only push back Social Security's judgment day by five years.

The insurmountable problem with Joe Biden's proposal is that taxing the rich doesn't, by itself, come close to closing Social Security's estimated long-term funding shortfall.

For the program to be truly strengthened for decades to come, a bipartisan proposal that raises additional revenue and mindfully reduces long-term expenses is needed.

But herein lies another issue: Ideologically, Democrats and Republicans are worlds apart when it comes to “fixing” Social Security. To amend Social Security, 60 votes are needed in the Senate — and it's been 44 years since either party last held a supermajority of votes in the upper house of Congress. This means no legislation will be passed without bipartisan support.

My sister, god rest her soul, foolishly thought that SS was going to take care of everything. Sunk her 401k into a new house, which she lost in 2008, got very sick in ‘09 and had to go on SSDI about 10 years early. Her “golden years” were much more reminiscent of tin. These youngsters now have to be educated that SS should be a supplement to their retirement that could be reduced without significant impact to their income. They need to be told to seriously look at what they are going to call a career and what kind of retirement that career is going to provide them. I would also tell them that the minimum age to receive benefits is going up to 70. These 20 year old kids today are VERY likely to live beyond the century mark, god help them.

Oh, almost forgot! I wonder if president tater head factored in all the freshly minted jackass voters pouring over the southern border? Maybe the minimum age should be raised to 75?

There are four major programs of social insurance in the United States. By far the largest is the Federal OldAge, Survivors, and Disability Insurance System, usually referred to as social security, which provides retirement benefits, survivors' benefits, and benefits to the permanently and totally disabled.

SS is basically an insurance program.,

Biden and his Democratic Socialist loons are trying to make SS available to illegals

Medicare and Medicaid too.

Personal debt is different than government debt.

We are accountable but governments are not.

Californias reparations panel just submitted their recommendations to the state legislature which will give every black resident up to 1.2 million dollars.

The total projected cost of reparations is 800 billion but the state doesn’t care because debt doesn’t matter to the government.

Nobody’s currency is backed by anything of value, it’s just made up numbers

At best, it concludes “Biden’s plan would only push back Social Security's judgment day by five years,” meaning the predicted bankruptcy of the program will only be delayed, that the plan isn’t addressing the real problem but only pushing it down the road

LAWFULLY ADMITTED aliens can work in this country. To do so they need a SSN, and then they pay into SS. If they complete the naturalization process, and accumulate the required time, then they can probably even collect benefits (which I completely support). Those people flooding the country right now would not, under normal circumstances, be lawfully admitted into this country (normal circumstances being an administration not headed by a demented jackass dictator and a congress full of communazis).

But here we are. Those poor slobs crossing the Rio Grande right now are the saviors of the party of the jackass. Somehow someway, one of your communist fucktards is going to find a way to make all of them legal before next November, and that election is gonna have to be watched VERY carefully, because right here and now, I’m predicting that der bidenfuhrer is gonna “win” next year, and the reward for his illegal minions is gonna be full citizenship and all the benefits that come along with that.

You better hope that the rules change. Especially if you’re a millennial. The only way your theory would work is if ALL the boomers died off at once. At least then you would have a 2 or 3 year breather before the first gen Xer’s turn 65. That’s not gonna happen though. Someone has to stop playing hot potato with SS and fucking do something about it.
