I spent my entire 18th year in Vietnam, I was not drafted. The average age of American soldiers in Vietnam was 19.3 years old.
Draft age for Vietnam was 19 to 25. Biden was slow in giving the weapons Ukraine requested and to attack targets inside of Russia too. This slow walking on the Biden administration part took a toll on Ukrainian manpower too?!!

For those drafted at 18 they would spend their first year in the service being trained, pretty much as a minimum meaning if they volunteered for duty in Vietnam they were likely to be 20 by the time they were sent there. That shows since there were only 101 18 year-olds killed in Vietnam.

As for Ukraine, the problem there is they simply don't have the population base to match Russia while they are taking pretty closely casualties at the same rate. The Ukrainian military is not overly competent. That war is like watching two drunks punch it out in a dive bar.

Americans tend to think that 18 is a great age for a soldier.....what they dont know is that post Soviet Union Ukraine has been such a miserable place that there are few people there less than 27 or so....people there are not interested in bringing kids into their world.

In order to go to Vietnam, you had to complete basic training, then complete whatever school(s) your MOS required. After that, you would be assigned to a unit and have to work up qualification with them. Vietnam was a 1-year tour, minimum. Now, I can see you being somewhere at 18 years-old when you went, but it couldn't have been a difficult MOS that required a lot of class time either.
