Bernie and Black Voters

My (black) buddy attended a Sanders rally in Oakland yesterday and posted this on Facebook. Explains why he lost to Hillary.

Yesterday I attended the Bernie Sanders rally in Oakland. I wanted to see and feel the energy that came out of the rally with my own eyes. There were thousands out and his message was on point. But there were very few Shawn G like folks in the crowd. The arts and gay crowd with a small army of the new Oakland white folks but very few hard working Black folks. Sanders message is strong but his campaign has not did a good job to reach out to people like me. Yes he was at Allen Temple Church but that crowd told the real story. The fact was I was surrounded by the new Oakland the Oakland that Jerry Brown showed me that did not include people like me. My point is go see things for yourself with your own eyes then talk from a first person perspective. After the rally like Bernie Sanders I ran off to see the Warriors beat that a@#- Shawn G.

so he doesnt get black folk because too many white folk show up at his rally?

Or because black folk dont like the arts and gay crowd?

my sneaking suspicion is that bernie did not display enough strength as a candidate to get the black vote.

which left first, the black folks, or Bernies campaign ?
seems to me Bernie is offering a superior deal for everyone, while Hillary is claiming(and getting) the black vote.
Your friends experience is a mirror of that -he doesn't really say if he's attracted to Bernies ideas, or more noticing
the lack of blacks in attendance.

It's all identity politics bullshit as far as I'm concerned - I'm not looking for a white guy.
Else I'd be all aboard the Trump train come hell or high water. I might climb on or not but his orange skin has nothing to do with it.

Then again I hear "it's our turn" and blahblah -which seems a ridiculous way to look for a POTUS.
But such as it is. We're all looking for someone, and we're so easily manipulated by our preconceptions

We all know that being a successful politician means reaching out and targeting/getting voters to support your campaign. We know that to win the Democratic Primary you have to have the support of black voters. My friend was basically saying Bernie didn't do that. We've known this all along of course but I thought it interesting hearing a friend say it.

I think it's more Clinton promising the black voters everything they want.
Or maybe it's her accent:

yes i was trying to get the reason why blacks didnt support him from your friends message.

Its seems like the crowd of other supporters were either too white or too gay.

bernie was the most favorable to illegal immigration though. That hurts blacks with their 50% youth unemployment more than anyone. Maybe they saw that?

What I got from his message was the Sanders campaign did a poor job of reaching out to the black community and the evidence of that was seen in the turnout.

His last part was about gentrification in Oakland which is a different topic of course.

I doubt it.
But "blacks" aren't universal audience either -it's just that they are so Democratic -and Democrats don't care all that much
about border control I can't see that as an issue..

There is also the #BLM movement that thinks Hillary actually gives a shit about their demands.
Other then that..??
