I admit I do not care at all for Boxer so I cannot judge this video fairly because I think she is bs'ing out her teeth.
Would anyone else mind listening to this two minute video and giving me their feedback? Thanks. (The video is at the link)
CA Sen. Barbara Boxer strongly defends Obama for doing "the right thing" in Libya
California's Barbara Boxer, one of the most liberal members of the U.S. Senate, today expressed strong support for President Obama's actions in supporting a U.N.-backed "no fly" zone in Libya, saying that he "did the right thing" to stop a dictator bent on destroying his own people.
Boxer made the comments today in a press conference in San Francisco, where we at SFChronicle/SFGate.com's Shaky Hand Productions asked her whether Democrats are holding Obama to a different standard on military actions than they did President George W. Bush; in 2007, as political leaders debated possible military action in Iran, many leading Democrats, including Obama himself, insisted the Republican president would have to seek Congressional approval first.
Boxer said the situations do not compare; here's her explanation to the Shaky Hand:
In 2007, both Barack Obama and Joseph Biden -- at the time both U.S. Senators who would become Democratic presidential candidates -- were highly critical of any possible military action by Bush in Iran.
Biden told MSNBC's Chris Matthews that "the president has no constitutional authority" to authorize air strikes "unless we're attacked -- or there is proof we are about to be attacked." He threatened impeachment if it happened.
Obama, too, argued Bush "does not have the authority to authorize an attack" without Congressional approval.
