It is foolish to raise taxes on anyone during a recession. Even according to Keynesian economic theory (to which most liberals subscribe), all taxes should be cut across the board during a recession to stimulate the economy.

The more you tax the rich, the less money they'll spend. They'll also create fewer jobs. In case you weren't aware, poor people don't create jobs.

What I propose is a flat tax of 20% with a $40k allowance. The economy booms wherever a flat tax is implemented (Russia is a good example), and we'd be wise to follow suit.

We must also cut back on government. As the size and scope of government decreases, erasing the deficit and chipping away at the debt, we should gradually lower the income tax until it is merely sufficient for the Constitutional functions of the Federal government.
