Ban Rap Music?

As a rap/hip-hop fan it hurts me to say this but is it time for rap music to be banned? After today's actions we know any references to violence cannot be tolerated. Rap music with its calls to murder police, women and white people can no longer be tolerated as freedom of expression. We know people take symbolic statements literally and seriously.

I have tears in my eyes as I type this. R.I.P. Hip Hop.

Music: Common elements of which are pitch (which governs melody and harmony), rhythm (and its associated concepts tempo, meter, and articulation), dynamics, and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture. The word derives from Greek μουσική (mousike), "(art) of the Muses."

To put it simply, you cannot ban what does not exist.

LOL, that's what I was thinking.

Not banned, condemed and otherwise boycotted, yes.... but banned, no.

Your summation supports the theory that Liberals hate Rap music and therefore are prejudiced against minorities.

..."Ted Nugent also has plenty to say... "I was in Chicago, I said, ‘Hey Obama, you might wanna suck on one of these you punk.’ … Obama, he’s a piece of shit, I told him to suck on my machine gun. Lets hear it! [crowd cheers] I was in New York, I said, ‘Hey Hillary, you might want to ride one of these into the sunset, you worthless bitch.’ … She might want to suck on my machine gun..."

i'm pretty sure cawacko is using irony and hyperbole as a form of debate

but he raises a good point, the left is running around solely accusing the right of using foul language, while ignoring the violence spewed in their ranks. the sheriff wants the vitriol to stop. so, do we just stop at political speech, or do go further and ban all hate speech?

Another bullshit Yurt lie.

NUMEROUS POSTERS from the left side of the aisle on these boards have condemned foul language from BOTH SIDES, yet you continue to spread a blatant falsehood.

When Jay-Z runs as Obama's VP cawacko will have a point. Until then it's just false equivalence bullshit. And no one is talking about banning anything.

I dont advocate banning any speach.

Once again, when caught in a lie, you move the goalpost.

So NOW you want a thread STARTED by a liberal condemning the left?

Funny that you didn't ask for that until I proved your previous claim to be a lie.

Yeah I was just screwing around writing that. I love hip hop it can't be banned. A few years back there was the guy who shot a cop in Texas when he got pulled over and he had 2 Pac in his tape deck and there was talk that 2 Pac's music led this guy to act like he did. I'm not claiming moral equivalence between political rhetoric and rap but the claim that certain rhetoric leads to violence is certainly not a new one.

I haven't really seen anyone suggesting banning speech, either, and if they did, they're being bogus.

I do think political leaders should be more responsible w/ some of the images & rhetoric they use. But they certainly have a right to use crosshairs & urge constituents to arm themselves....

makes all the difference in the world huh....no one starts a thread bashing it...i wonder why

go find me posts where the left is specifically calling out hate speech on the left since you think the thread is moving the goal post....i don't want a generalized "there is harmful rhetoric on both sides" i want a specific call out, because you obviously got so horny over trying to catch me in a lie, but you failed to understand the difference between a generic statement and a specific call out

try again, maybe someday you'll succeed

lol...if you look at the post zappy used for onceler, it is onceler only saying it exists on both sides AFTER i called him out for not saying anything about the left

just as i've always said, he will rarely, if ever, condemn the left until called on his partisan hackmanship....and he hasn't specifically called out anyone, just generally said it exists on both sides, but its the rights fault and the rights responsibility to change it
