How can the US attain greatness when its' reputation, prominence and prestige has faded so rapidly in such a short period period of time?

How can the US attain greatness when its' reputation, prominence and prestige has faded so rapidly in such a short period period of time?

I assume America's cratering international reputation has something to do with having modern Republican presidents.
