Trump Doesn’t Remember Papadopoulos A Week After Bragging On His ‘Great’ Memory
Donald Trump has a long history of self-contradictory statements, and he seems determined to keep adding to that list. It’s like he thinks video doesn’t exist.
Less than a week after boasting that he has one of the “great memories of all time,” President Trump turns around and feigns ignorance in the face of suspicion, claiming that he can’t recall “much” about meeting George Papadopoulos.
This week, special counsel Robert Mueller unsealed Papadopoulos’ admission as a part of the investigation into Russian collusion. That’s when Donald Trump’s “great” memory started to get a little faulty.
The president spoke to the press at the White House Friday morning and said:
‘I don’t remember about that meeting, it was an unimportant meeting. Took place a long time — don’t remember much about it. All I can tell you is this: there was no collusion, there was no nothing.
Reportedly George Papadopoulos had a meeting with Donald Trump, a presidential candidate at the time, during which he offered to arrange a meeting for Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. The meeting with Putin never took place.
Still, this story comes on the heels of another Trump-tacular disaster, where the president directly contradicts himself. Given his propensity for exaggerating and boasting, it’s not exactly a surprise, but it does make Trump’s comment about meeting with Papadopoulos seem more than a little convenient.
In late October the pregnant widow of U.S. Army Sgt. La David Johnson (who lost his life in Niger in October), Myeshia Johnson, gave an interview after speaking with the president expressing extreme sadness and anger about the president’s hurtful words and inability to remember her husband’s name.
Rep. Frederica Wilson of Florida told ABC News that she heard the speakerphone conversation President Trump had with Myeshia Johnson and could back up what Johnson says the president told her.
Rep Wilson said:
‘I heard him say, “Well I guess you know he knew what he was signing up for, but it still hurts.”‘
Trump responded that Rep. Wilson’s recollection was a “total fabrication.”
But Myeshia Johnson defended Congresswoman Wilson, saying:
‘Why would we fabricate something like that?’
Trump followed up on his words by speaking to the press and telling them that he has “one of the great memories of all time.”
So which is it? One of the great memories of all time, or he can’t remember something that happened in March 2016? It’s hard to have it both ways.
